Before i start i want to say that i really like XVID (judging from results i have seen) and i want to use it on the videos i encode.

But having the latest version, i too notice those pink effects on different parts of the movie.
Will there be a solution to this problem soon or should i install another older codec version?

From the posts i have read, some say to install the 30/1/2002 xvid binary.I also wanted to know what would i lose from the point of codec performance in picture quality and speed if i do that (use the older dated binary)

Regarding picture quality, you will gain and not loose. The builds dated after 2/2 have that pink problem you mentioned, at least with when choosing H.263 quantization and AMD machines. Don't know for other machines (i own AMD) or other configurations, but divx4 decoder has problems with MPEG qualtization.
There is a site stating that one could avoid the pink problems by choosing resolutions multiple of 16 in both width and height.

I believe there is a thread in this forum that states other machines having the problem too.
There is a new build made by Koepi, and for the short tests i did, doen't loose quality, but i didn't encode any full movie with it yet.
For now i am sticking with the 2/2 Nic's build, but Koepi compile could change that.

The xVid codec looks pretty promising...however the pink really sucks. At the moment i am also receiving green diagonal blocks while using AthlonXP.

Is this problem going to be solved anytime soon? It seems i can't frameserve over a network, otherwise i would use the p4 to do the encoding.

BTW, i have solved this problem by doing the first pass with xvid and using the stats to do the second pass with nandub. I have discovered that the nandub stats are exactly identical in size to the xvid stats file. Are these stat files identical? I only did this because xvid allows a min quantizer of 1.

Does xvid and nandub produce the same stats file?

oh, and i used avic to change the fourcc to xvid, xvid...and i cannot play the vid file

Can someone plz help me

I haven't gotten any pink blocks at all on my K7 1.2 - whether I play the clip with XviD or DivX. With MPEG quantization, yes DivX is still broken.

Yes.

The FourCC's should be xvid and XVID (case sensitive?).

i didn't know it was case sensitive
