View Full Version : avc+aac+ac3+sub remux = impossible for apple_tv?

1) I can create a playable 1)avc_video+2)aac+3)ac3 without subs fine in xmedia-recode.
Plays fine on apple-tv3 and correctly selects 2nd ac3 audio track, but no way to add subs in xmedia-recode as + is grayed out on subs tab

2) I can create a playable 1)avc_video+2)aac+3)subs fine in YAMB/MEGUI (required text->sbtl edit)
Single audio track works fine on Apple-TV3

3) I cannot create a 'playable' 1)avc_video+2)aac+3)ac3+4)subs in anything.
ANY mp4 with dual aac(stereo)+ac3(5.1) created using YAMB will NOT play on Apple-TV3! (hit play it just goes into pause mode!)
ANY mp4 with dual aac(stereo)+ac3(5.1) created using MEGUI will play on Apple-TV3 BUT it plays the 1st stereo AAC track when it should play the 2nd 5.1 one as it does with video created in 1) (so marginally better than YAMB, but still no cigar)


Here are the mediainfo results for tests 1)xmedia-recode and 3) MeGUI (I notice that the AAC in 3) looks different i.e. constant vs variable?)

I have now tried MkvToMp4and it has successfully created an avc+aac_2+ac3_6_subs mp4 that plays correctly on apple-tv!!! It correctly chooses the ac3_6 audio (unlike MeGui), it also doesn't pause and not play like YAMB, it also adds the subs, unlike xmedia-recode AND sets to sbtl so no need for an editor. I thought I'd got there but...

However when trying the file on an ipad (served via itunes-pc)it plays for 3 secs then stops for 10 then plays again. I though it might be the wifi, BUT the original file created by xmedia-recode (without subs plays fine)
