RIPbot causing drift

Im getting audio drift for 1hr+ 352x240 60i uncompressed footage (using high profile, 2pass, 128kbps 2.0fhg aac-lc) . Im going to try other encoders, however since most of them force an arbitrary framesize and screw up the AR i may have to settle for messed up audio. Damn, and i really thought i'd found a working encoder.

Just wanted to add im checking lipsync with my source and mkv in mpc-hc and vlc and they're both confirming that ripbot is causing the drift. Still working on finding other encoders.

i just went back to the other movies i encoded in the past with ripbot and they're all out of sync.

Ok, just finished waiting on hour for automkv to encode the video and it gives me a file with no audio, despite their clearly being an audio track assigned to it. Anyone here know of an encoder?

Clearly you do not understand what audio drift is.

Anyways, ive tried import my file into handbrake as lossless and lagarith and it throws an error both ways, so theres another worthless encoder. Not sure what to do, im running out of encoders here.

Maybe an issue with your source, as nobody else seems to have any problems with drift with any of the programs you mentioned

Mediainfo claims the frame rate is 59.94, which is not correct for 60i footage. It should report 29.97 fps

Did you check if the audio was at fault, or the video? "Drift" would suggest one is longer than the other

If they are ALL out of sync , but were not before, maybe you have problem with playback?

You mentioned VLC and MPCHC, but did you try another computer (maybe at a friend's house)

Either way that would cause alot more problems than just drift if that were a problem, but seeing as it takes over 90 minutes of footage to detect drift uploading a few minutes isnt going to solve anything.

That would explain the drift , wouldn't it? The "off" frame rate

29.971 is off too - the standard frame rate should be 30000/1001 precisely or 29.97003.... not 29.971

If you load the source video with AVISource() in avisynth, what does info() report ? about the frame rate

What is the original source video from? was it hi8 to uncompressed? (what hardware to cap)? and what operations or filters did you use in vdub ?

So was that a typo? it' s not interlaced? Or did you deinterlace in vdub? Eitherway the framerate should be unaltered unless you bob-deinterlaced to 59.94p (which mediainfo reports)



It might be as simple as adding AssumeFPS(30000,1001) to the script to force the exact framerate

OK let me clarify whats going on here:

Im capturing hi8 using "av grabber pro" which is the only hi8 capture device i could find that would allow me to capture to lossless. This lossless file is reported as being UYVY 29.97 by gspot (the 29.971 is a truncation, its probably the .00003 your saying it should be), and there are absolutely no problems with the capture file. Now if i load up a info() script for the source file vdub says its 59.94, RGB32, and not field based, so not only does avisynth/vdub report the wrong framerate, it contradicts its assumed framerate by (correctly) reporting that its not field based. Also it reports the colorspace as RGB32 whereas gspot reports it as UYVY, so either my capture device converted the colorspace into RGB32 or it didnt and vdub/avisynth is once again a completely unreliable source of information.

Well i framed carefully through the edited footage and vdub does in fact double the framerate, so i set it to decimate by 2 and it removed that little problem. HOWEVER....this is not the cause of the drift. The edit footage i output from vdub is and always has been in sync. The problem is that ripbot is the only encoder that will encode my footage but when it does it gives me drift, even after i have corrected the framerate issue. Ive tried to feed it to other encoders in both uncompressed and lagarith and it will not accept it, handbrake wont accept it, staxrip crashes midway, and automkv gives me a silent film. Now if these programs werent absolute garbage then file input would equal file output, but i guess you get what you pay for. At this point all i can do is look for a commercial solution as these free programs are nothing but a waste of time.
