View Full Version : DTS-HD MA and True HD in MPC-HC - a few problems

Is it alright if Media Player Classic HC shows the length of DTS-HD MA and TrueHD files incorrectly - two or three times longer? Tried LAV and ffdshow filters (and even, I think DTS filter) - seems like it's the same.

And none of these filters play TrueHD if it does not have the lossy "core" - why?

Could please someone tell me whether MPC-HC can decode TrueHD stream losslessly? Or does it only decode the core?

And it does not decode lossless part of DTS-HD MA on it's own (with no DTS decoders), right?

TrueHD does not really have a "core", so yes, it can decode the lossless part.

And right on your second question, it'll only decode the DTS core.

I am confused. For example, in this thread they, say there is a core: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=139240 . I think I was able to extract the core with eac3to, but it may have been a conversion - I don't remember...

I have now a TrueHD track and it does not have the core (could have extracted it wrongly), but strange thing: MPC-HC says it cannot render the file!

On Blu-rays, TrueHD gets mixed with AC3 into the same stream, so that players that don't support TrueHD can play something at least. However, those two are not related.
You can extract that "core", and you can have TrueHD without the core, its basically a separate stream for compatibility sake.

Alright. So TrueHD can be playing in MPC-HC with its internal codecs, right? Is there a way to check whether the TrueHD file is alright (since MPC says it can't render it, so I wonder whether it's MPC's fault or the file has been extracted wrong or damaged somehow)?

Just started eac3to convertion: trying to convert that TrueHD track to FLAC - still in process, but so far no errors - seems like the file should be okay. So why doesn't it play on MPC-HC? I tried installing the fdshow filter (and disabling internal MPC filter). Even foobar2000 with AC3 filter does not recognize the file at all.
