help to activate h.264 hardware acceleration on mobility radeon x1600

hi!

the gpu i have is supposed to provide hardware acceleration for h.264 but using different players - mpc, vlc, divx plus - to reproduce an h.264/mkv trailer the result is always the same: high cpu usage

i googled a lot with no success... is there any utility that can checks/benchmarks h.264 on my gpu?!? or any tip to activate hardware acceleration?!?

the notebook isn't too old, can play 1080p, but i'm tring to optimize... i'm on win 7 64-bit, drivers are the last available for the gpc ati catalist 10.2 legacy

I think x1600 has no full H.264 hardware acceleration ability(ModeH.264_VLD).

X1600 has only partial H264 acceleration (desktop version has only MC or MoComp or Motion Compensation).

If You wanna give it a try, try using CyberLink PDVD codecs, I was able to use the partial acceleration properties on my 7600Go.

Register CLCvd.ax and CLVsd.ax usin regsvr command- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/249873

ENable DXVA (or HAM) in the advanced properties- accessed by holding CTRL while clicking the filter properties.

so what i undurstand from you guys, i can't use dxva... let's try for this partial

btw i dont want to bother you with this old card... last questions just to make a test, ati specs is totally unfair not to mention it

partial means that codecs bypass the dx api?!!? could be i'm using partial when i play 720p trailer with 50% cpu + 50% gpu on mpchc and not on youtube 720p h.264 at 90-100% cpu + 10% gpu?!? or just software/renders settings?!?

There should be something like "ModeH.264_VLD" for full acceleration and "ModeH.264_MoComp" or smth for partial, since there's none then unfortunately there's no HW support for accelerating H264 videos, even partially.
