Hello all,

OK, call me a dumbass - I can take it :( - but i just cannot get my head round the resolution/compressibility part. I would be real grateful if some kind-hearted soul could put me out of my misery as I must be doing something wrong.

I do fine until I get to the Resolution tab. I crop as per the guide, slide my resolution bar along while keeping the Bits/ (Pixel*Frame) close to 0.20, "Resize" (looks fine) and "Save and Encode". Normally choose "Soft Bicubic", no filters, and then run the "Compressibility Test" at 5%.

This is where it all goes wrong - every movie I have tried produces a result which is way below 60%, usually around 40-45%. In order to get this up to anywhere near 60% I have to reduce the resolution to such an extent that the Bits/(Pixel*Frame) goes to way over 0.35. End result - low resolution movie which won't fit on a 700mb disc. All movies tried so far were around 90 mins long by the way.

Can someone please point me in the right direction as I am obviously toatally abusing what is an excellent piece of kit. Should I just be content to compromise here and go for about 50% and half decent resolution? Is there an "acceptable" resolution for 90 min movie on 1 disc? Also could someone please tell me what it is the compressibility check is actually measuring, ie X% of what?

Sorry for long post and for being so dumb.

Thanks and kind regards,

Mogre1.

the percentage is just a rough guide..50% is usually fine with divx4 too
