Key Frames

Hello,

in a couple of programs that I have used to back up my cd's I have notied a option for Key frams and will give a senconds amount under niet that.. Can some one explain what it is for me.

a key frame is a special frame with all the pixels of the picture you're actually seeing
a key frame doesn't need the previous frame to be seen
in a movie when the scene goes from one place to another a key frame is automatically inserted because the two pictures are so different that the way divx or mpeg compression works can't be used
