i'am pretty sure they dont need such help, however some general "instructions" from /me:
a. listen to some father of gnu, to be found on youtube (Richard Stallman) - about 10 minutes of random footage will do. :P
b. no autoupdates of any kind (unless maintained by the distro itself, like apt) - this should be obvious from a., but still pointing out.
c. no calls home, do not collect any info and don't send it anywhere - this should be obvious from a., but still pointing out.
