Tired of updating MPC-HC

There seems to be an update to MPC-HC every few hours on this site on a daily basis: http://xhmikosr.1f0.de/mpc-hc/?folder=bXBjLWhj

And according to the log here (http://mpc-hc.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mpc-hc/?view=log), everyone of these udpates contains some bug fix so I always feel tempted to uninstall my current version and install the latest one.

But I am tired of this really I have to do it at least twice a day as the updates are rolled out that fast

What do you guys do? Do you install the latest official which is v1.6.1.4235 from the Official Site (http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/download-media-player-classic-hc.html) or do you install the latest ones from the site I posted above?


PS: I need to use MPC-HC because I use SVP (http://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Main_Page) (smooth video Project) and they work very well with each other to render videos @ 60 FPS

Thing is that XhmikosR's builds are official nightly builds of MPC-HC. They do contain fixes indeed but often you can catch regressions included which are spotted quite quickly. Again after certain time XhmikosR is bundling all revisions from A to B and release 'em as next official stable release.

If you don't mind catching new bugs/regressions from time to time then you're safe with nightly builds. Otherwise you should stick to latest stable.

With any program that updates frequently, I adopt the adage of, if my current release ain't broke, do stress about an update.

Then maybe once a month or so, I'll go through and check for updates.

I don't use SVP since it doesn't work with MadVR. Yeah I don't really stress about updates since I don't use any splitters, codecs or renderers that come with MPC

I install a new one whenever I remember to check the website or I recommend it to some friends and notice a new version in the progress. Right now, I see I'm on 4014 ... it works well for what I watch so didn't feel the need to upgrade to the newer version.

I voted latest version from link provided, but I as well don't update every day. I am currently on the version 4400, and i won't update again probably for a while. I also keep my last working version as well as the official version in case the newest version has some very nasty regressions.

Usually I update just this or that standalone filter, the player itself seldom changes. BTW no need to "install" MPC-HC, that's what the mpc-hc.ini file exists for :)

Indeed! I think it's great that someone uses his free time to compile and host fresh builds. Also no one is forced to update their software.

Are you sure? I have madVR selected as my renderer + im using LAV + SVP + ReClock...

In-fact, madVR is included when you install SVP anyway

The same logic can apply to many different things, all of which invalidate that saying. The saying is typically used to express personal opinion, rather than to be used in its intended context. For example, a proper use of the term would be not to pull apart your brand new tv for no reason other than for the sake of it. Even then, if you did you'd be silly because the tv should be under warranty, and by taking it apart you void that warranty even if it is broken; the proper course of action would be to take it back for warranty. So in this sense, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', and 'if it is broke, don't fix it either'.

I don't wait for it to be broken before I fix it and scratch my head wondering what went wrong!

Instead of updating every build, you could always update every once a week. You could even force yourself not to be curious about looking at the changelog until such time, so come time to update you get a double 'treat' :)

I agree with the above statements that follow the "Don't update if everything is working fine" but sometimes I wish that there was an automatic update mechanism within the executable which would download, unzip, exit the program, replace, and clean up the zip. Pre-approved to update automatically, of course.

same here, although been an month since last update but the latest from that site is working fine with no apparent issues.
