Backup iTunes Movies

I have extensive collection of movies that I bought for the iPad and they are also available on my PC via iTunes. I'm replacing my PC and would like to backup the files to an external hard drive but I heard that DRM makes the files useless once you move them. Someone pointed me to NoteBurner but is that the only way?
