Hey, I am trying to encode TMNT s09 to x264. I thought i had the ivtc set properly. That is, until i showed this 1 min clip to a friend to ask his opinion of the encode (since i'm using a very low bit rate).

The first thing he asked was why i did not ivtc! hehe.

I used IVTC.dll -> tfm(order=1).tdecimate(hybrid=1)
Heres a screen (look at the bald dudes head)

Head isn't distorted in every frame

When i go frame by frame on the encode the "distortion" on his head goes in a pattern kinda like 3:2 but not.

When i go frame by frame on the source the "distortion" on his head is the same. However it isn't in the interlaced frames.

I can't tell if it needs a better ivtc or if its just part of the source. I have tried many different methods (including every option MeGUI has and running it through AutoGK) and nothing gets rid of it. The same kind of thing shows up all over every episode. When watching it full speed (and the video is not panning) is appears as a slight "Shimmering" effect.

upload the original file, people can't do much with already encoded clip and guess where the problem is

heres a 14 second mkv made with the vob. Will that work? Not sure how to cut a vob.

Cut the VOB with DGSplit.

I kinda think it's just the way it is. if you go frame by frame in vdub you can clearly see 2 interlaced frames and 3 non-interlaced (progressive) frames. It (what you see on the bald dudes head) is happening in the progressive frames. Still wouldn't mind the opinion of someone more experienced then me though lol :)

It's aliasing, common in cartoons. You can add an AA filter after your IVTC

e.g

daa, saa, aaa, or dozen others

Here are a bunch

Looks like it's in the source to me.

Thanks guys. I might try an aa filter out.
