Download (code.google.com/p/ffmpegsource/) and install FFmpegsource. It works for me(Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32 bit , Avisynth 2.58, Virtualdub 1.9.11 32 bit)

Thanks for the reply, Strange I had already tried it by putting all the extracted files in the Avisynth/plugins folder but I must have gotten something wrong in the
script part as It's ages since I tried using avisynth, anyway tried again and it works, thanks for giving me a reason to try it again.
I have been using DirectShowSource for opening .mp4 .flv .mpeg should I prefer FFmpegsource over Directshow for any of these? or just use it for opening .wmv
which is the only one I could not open.
