I am into a discussion with some guy on another board. He claims that mpeg4 is the codec for DVD, while I say it's mpeg2. The guy keeps holding onto he claims, so now I'd like to slap him with some cold facts. Preffed some links where this is explained clearly. Like mpeg2 vs mpeg4, implementations, standards, etc

DVD FAQ (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/officialfaq.html)

Paragraph 1.3 states that DVD is MPG1 or MPG2. Unfortunately it doesn't state that it can't be MPG4 (though I know it can't).

Paragraph 2.14 specifically talks about MPG4.

Hope that helps.

tnx for the nfo. I'd like to ignore him, but we are on a Permiere 6 forum where people exchange knowledge on editing video and all. Now, suddenly, people are starting to getting their focus on (s)vcd and are starting to ask questions. This guy supposedly works at Pinnacle and is spreading all kind of bull. Before people are starting to believe I'd prefer de-bunking him. So ignoring him isnt really an option...

If DVD was mpeg4, we could play divx movies on standalone DVD players...

@sarahjh69:
mpeg 3 does not exist, it's mpeg 1 layer 3 for music
