View Full Version : Edit H264 MKV Without Re-encode

I know AviMuxGui can do this by key frame, but unfortunately it no longer seems to be compatible with modern mkv files. I've noticed that everything I've encoded since upgrading MeGUI from 3.5 now cannot be edited by AviMuxGui(well, it can but the audio track is wrong and plays at perhaps %30 speed). I'm not sure if this is a problem with it misreading the aac container or what. May even be that my Nero version is newer as well.

Anyway, AviMuxGui no longer works on my new encodes and I wonder if there is anything else that edits by key frame without re-encode? I have ultra video spillter which can do mp4s, but it can't read mkv containers, sadly :(

And remuxing to mp4 and back to mkv has given me several errors and some weird results, so I prefer not to keep doing it this way.

And before someone says "Avidemux"? No. I've tried editing several of my files with this using it's key frame seek and then using copy to save the end file and it has never once worked. The only way I can edit a file with Avidemux is if I want to re-encode it.

Try turning off header compression for the MKV muxing step and see if that retains compatibility with AviMuxGui.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did try that and the error still persists. However, Avidemux(SVN) finally works on all key frame edits with copy! This is actually far less painful than editing everything in avimuxgui with adding minutes and seconds by hand, so I guess it's been resolved another way :)
