MPC-HC fails to automatically deinterlace video

I am using MPC-HC v1.5.2.3456. I have all Source Filters and Transform Filters unchecked except for MPEG PS/TS/PVA and MPEG-2 Video.

I leave those 2 filters checked because I use them to playback MPEG-TS .mpg videos, they use very little resources, and seeks instantaneously compared to ffdshow's filters.

A problem I recently noticed with MPC-HC is the MPEG-2 filter does not automatically deinterlace certain .ts videos (deinterlacing is set to "automatic").

There are some MPEG-TS videos that will automatically deinterlace and some videos where it fails to detect and deinterlace. What is causing this? Is it a poorly encoded video? or is the file corrupted somehow?

And what is "Set interlaced flag in output media type"?

I'm no expert when it comes to codecs, containers and all the AV jargon. I try to explain the problem the best I can.

Checked = "Let the renderer do the deinterlacing based on the flags in the stream"
Unchecked = "Let MPC-HC do deinterlacing, if at all, via one of the methods selectable in MPEG-2 Filter (Blend, Bob, etc.)"

You should use your eyes to determine which one looks best on files that are properly deinterlaced on playback.

Getting around to your main question:

1) Are you sure these problematic files are in fact MPEG-2 Video, and not MPEG-4 AVC a/k/a H.264 Video? Look at what MPC-HC reports under File - > Properties... (or File -> Properties... -> MediaInfo tab).

2) Where do the files come from? Could they have been recorded in a way where the encoder was told to expect progressive video but was sent successive fields?

Also, for the most part, the .mpg file extension is used to designate MPEG-2 Program Streams, not MPEG-2 Transport Streams, which often bear the .ts or .m2ts suffix.

Finally, as always, please cut a sample (use DGSplit, take first 50 MB), upload to MediaFire, and post a download link in this thread. That'll let everyone else take a look at the properties of the actual files and test them.

Yes they are MPEG-TS videos per MediaInfo (shift+F10) and you are right, they are .ts extension and not .mpg. I will upload a 30sec clip of each video when I get home tonight. Here is some info on the 2 files. It is the 2nd file (STUDIO APARTMENT) that fails to automatically deinterlace.
