Video Conversion for the Samsung Galaxy Note

Default Video Conversion Settings
I'm using DVDvideosoft Free Studio to convert Dvrms and M2ts files to mp4 for the note.

Please advise if these are good settings.

H.264
1280X800 res
30fps
bitrate 2.5mbps
audio AAC 48000 Hz 192 kbps

x264@2500kbps is quite satisfactory for some standard quality 720p. And on 7" screen you shouldn't notice even if it's only LQ @1500kbps, Why do you need to use non standard 800p resolution? Use 720p or whatever it is respectfully to the source :wink:

I don't know what h264 codec DVDvideosoft Free Studio use but x264 is free to try it.

The screen on the note is 5.4" and 1280x800, so I thought it best to match the screen res.

I compared 2500kbps and 1500kbps and could not notice a difference. File size was reduced by 30% on the lower setting. Thanks for the advice!

The Note screen is super amoled 5.4" 1280X800. If I encode the video to match the screen isn't that less work for the phone?

Most of the videos I'm using the resolution has to be changed any way. (Dvrms 1080i and 720p) (M2ts 1080p)

I'm not sure if I should leave the encoding res at 800 or drop it to 720?

always use 1280x...! 1.6 aspect ratio does not exist in movie industry(1280x800). correct resolution will be 1280x720 (if movie is 1.778), 1280x544 (2.35), 1280x532 (2.4)

Are you saying the aspect ratio will be distorted by using 800 instead of 720?

I'm looking for a standard setting for the phone.

My content is bluray concerts M2ts 1080p and Dvrms TV shows 720p and 1080i.

Am I understanding correctly to encode these files at 1280X700 not 1280X800 and do not worry about matching the phone's resolution?

I wonder why the screen was built with 800 res?

Won't the 800 res fill the phone's screen with out noticeably altering the aspect ratio?

if you use 1280x800 your video will be vertically stretched (egg head effect). you could also ask why we had laptops or monitors with 1.6 aspect ratio (1440x900) . ripbot264 will help you to select correct resolution.

OK thanks sounds like 720 is the best all around res for my phone. I'll checkout ripbot
