Weird problem?-Slow Encoding

I have an Athlon XP 1,6+ ASSUS A7V266,256 DDR RAM AND 30 IMB AT 7200 . I have the following problem when i encode a movie with my standard settings that are :

512x288 no deinterlace
divx4 Double pass
1200-1700 kbps
and MQ5 mQ3
and sound 128 mp3
I get around 30-31 frames per sec

When i change the audio to 160 or 256 or anth else than 128 my framerate goes to 10 frames per sec ... Why is this happenig?
i have installed first the divx 3.11 then the divx 4.12 and then the ra audio codec...
Whats wrong? Please HELP M.....

After installing the codecs many times now no matter what quality of sound i put in my frames drop down to 9-10 fps which is pathtic Help me guys...

don't encode audio at the same time.
run the video encode, with no audio,
then go back and do the extract audio to wav option.
put it back together in vdub (and up the audio gain a bit)

I am aware of that method.. Thats the way i did the divx long ago but i really need solution concerning this encoding problem i can get it why it happens ?

Try Gknot. If you use mp3 audio with it, it will transcode ac3 to mp3 with a 2-pass Azid, followed by lame. The default is 128kbps, but you can readily change it. It will then encode (Divx4) video using Vdub in 2 passes, and, optionally, a single low-quality pass for the end credits. Once the video encoding has completed, it will interleave your audio and video. If you search thru the GKnot forum, I doubt you'll see an entry there from someone having your problem.
