I'm starting this thread, for multiple reasons. I'm sure Jdobbs would appreciate benchmarks going to a proper thread, and not plaguing the bug reports thread ;) As well as producing informative results, which will help others determine if DGDecNV is right for them, and what kind of gains they'll see with the mentioned hardware/s.
And perhaps others can help me better interpret, and understand the various settings :)
I recently lost my GTX 260 in what I call a meltdown(water cooling leak). So out of curiosity, I decided to test one of the more minimum cards laying around. An 8600Gt. I expected the card to actually hinder the performance. And as it turns out, with the right settings, performance will not be hindered.
I'll be receiving a GTX 570 wednesday, whereby I'll continue more testing. It has become apparent that the 8600Gt will not amount to the gains I'd like to achieve. But I'm not able to utilize my CPU fully, due to an improper air cooler getting me by. 3 cores for short periods of time, is all I can muster at the moment :( Thankfully a new air cooler is also on its way :D
(The following results are from an AMD 965 quad at 3.4Ghz, and mushkin DDR3 1600 Cas 7 Ram)
The video stream is a 49 second AVC clip from "Star Trek: The next Level Sampler".

As it appears to me now, The faster the CPU, the faster the GPU can serve the frames. My 8600Gt is probably not the best GPU for testing this, But it is not busting its butt. It is very outdated. I can't wait to see the results of a modern GPU :)

Sorry about the wait. As you know, full "high quality" encodes take time ;) I prefer high quality, because I have noticed slight differences between fast and high quality, during action sequences. Given not much compression is needed for this one, Faster would probably have sufficed ;)
All encodes were done at 3.7Ghz(High Quality). It should probably be noted, I use 3Tb Green drives (WD) for my storage, encoding drives. The source and output!

The last post was right at the 16,000 character limit.
Something I found interesting, perhaps Jdobbs will too? The output sizes were substantially different, with the different frameservers.

This is interesting. This first run (using DGDecNV) stressed the GPU's Video engine more so then I have seen in the past. It averaged 99% load. The CPU on the other hand averaged 22 - 25%(HC encoder). It's as though the GPU could not keep up with the frame serving. If the two were to work in tandem(CPU frameserve as well), we could likely see a gain here. But how many people actually output to dvd anyway? This is a fairly rare process for me.

Can you please check with AVSmeter what frame rates you can reach with DGDecNV. Maybe your GTX570 is limiting as it only has VP4.
You can also use the GPU observer to see if VPU is running at 100%.
I have a GT520 with VP5 and if I use DGDecNV it is way faster as using LAVF or ffdshow. My performance increase is about 60% with DGDecNV .

It may be a pointless endeavor. Not sure how to run Avsmeter yet anyhow. Haven't done any sort of scripting.
It's worth noting, that I run my encodes with High quality settings. Making the frameserver have to wait on the CPU. But I do see it bust it's butt from time to time, using GPU-Z for monitoring sensors ;)

I'm currently only seeing one reason to use DGDecNV for frameserving. The output file size/s are extremely close to what is specified.
This is the first source I've seen MPEG-2, 1920 x 1080. The video engine (VPU) never runs with these sources according to GPU-Z. The GPU however averages 15%. The AVC sources under quick encode ramp to an average of 99% on the VPU, where the GPU does nearly nothing.

Like to run a comparison. Not for bragging rights or anything.... What exactly did your settings involve? Full disc? High Quality? Faster for extras? I generally don't go faster for extras, since the time savings is usually trivial. Probably especially when using DGDecNV.
Looks like MIB 3 is all AVC video. Batman and Robin was all VC-1. My cpu is waiting on the frameserving from the GPU.
Looks like I'll be interested in converting this board over into an encoding machine, in which I'll need a better Video processing GPU ;)

Men In Black 3 did go fast! High quality/Fast extras = 3hrs 35 min. Could probably tweak for a little more speed. But I'm quite pleased with this! That means on the average, 2 movies can encode while I sleep. Processors are finally doing quite nicely in the blu-ray arena. ;) Can't wait for steam roller or perhaps even a 10 core processor.

I bought a license for DGDecNV and am finding that the GPU doesn't get above 1%, Video Engine Load is approx. 27%, yet my CPU cores are maxed out at 99-100%. Is this normal?
I was expecting higher GPU usage - is DGDecNV even working - is there a way to check the license file is ok and that DGDecNV is registered properly?
I'm no expert on this stuff, so any thoughts/help is appreciated.
Using TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.6.4 to check GPU usage.
Card is GEFORCE GT550M - 2GB, i7 with 16GB - ASUS N53S

DGDecNV uses the PureVideo engine, not the GPU cores, for decoding.
Unless you are transcoding or doing something else, CPU use should not be so high.
Make sure you have decode modes in the INI as 0,0,0.

The high CPU usage rates are to be expected. In fact its a good sign. That means AVISYNTH and DGDecNV are feeding video frames to your processors at a rate that can keep the CPUs maxed. X264 will use all the CPU it can as long as it isn't waiting for input. By default BD-RB runs X264 at idle priority -- meaning that if you run anything else the other task will have a higher priority and will grab CPU as it it needed. That's also a good thing, it keeps the encode using as much CPU as it can, but allows other processes to run as well.
Getting to a point where BD-RB/X264 can use all available CPU capability is the main reason DGDecNV support is so important.

Thanks for the explanation - it now makes sense and puts my mind at ease that both BD Rebuilder and DGDecNV are working together in harmony.
On a side note - I see that BD Rebuilder can convert to mkv and in a previous post from 2010 you mentioned you would be working on subtitles for mkvs.
Just wondered if you were still working towards this as I think this would make BD Rebuilder the one-stop-shop software for BR and mkv conversion.

Thanks for the explanation - it now makes sense and puts my mind at ease that both BD Rebuilder and DGDecNV are working together in harmony.
On a side note - I see that BD Rebuilder can convert to mkv and in a previous post from 2010 you mentioned you would be working on subtitles for mkvs.
Just wondered if you were still working towards this as I think this would make BD Rebuilder the one-stop-shop software for BR and mkv conversion.

RegardsFrom the change log in Feb 2012: - Added support for subtitle muxing in ALTERNATE
output to MKV. This feature is enabled by adding
a new hidden option MKV_MUXSUPS=1 to the INI file
(see HIDDENOPTS.TXT). Note: This feature muxes
.SUP files in Blu-ray format. SUP formatted
subtitles are not supported in all MKV players.
Please check your MKV player's specifications.and from Sep 1012- Changed MKV output so no PGS subtitle is selected
by default at playback.

Try using ffdshow for decoding instead on this title. I have had a similar error message before and that seemed to fix it.

You're right, just for the sake of trying after posting that error i went with ffdshow. Went through without a hitch. There must be something in video_00107 that dgindexnv is choking on. The main thing is, i got the title to backup. That's all that's important.

This is a very rare error. I don't even remember which movies caused. Never reported it because it happened when you started implementing support for the Kepplar cards. Thought it was just related to that.

the stream was VID_00107, and yes i'm using a 6xx card. in specific the Asus GTX 680 DirectCU II OC, can't upload the exact stream as it's 2.39GB in size. DGIndexNV process the other ones up until 107 just fine. I can't know if there's other ones it will/would choke on cause it would have to get past 107 first. Swapping to ffdshow and BDRB processed it just fine. I think one of the 'errors' i had after trying a resume is the windows message "DGIndexNV" has stopped working.

I'm using a Zotac GTX 680. This might be the common denominator. A driver issue perhaps?

I don't think Ch3vr0n's problem is associated with DGDecNV or with FFDSHOW. His log is showing that the encoding (and therefore the frame serving) has actually completed successfully: - [21:23:32] Reencoding: VID_00107, Pass 1 of 2
- [21:28:29] Reencoding: VID_00107, Pass 2 of 2
- [21:33:19] Video Encode completethe times don't seem impossible for a 14,000 frame source at the "Good" setting and it seems consistent with the times of the previous encodes.
The error is occuring when BD-RB is using TSMUXER to multiplex an M2TS stream - Error in attempt to multiplex: MUX_00107.meta
- Can't open file: C:\TEMP\WORKFILES\VID_00107_2.AVS.1.264the likely culprit might be something to do with the combining of the multiple parts (due to splitting) or missing files. I'd suggest we see the contents of the .META file used for the muxing, and also a listing of the folder to see if the two .264 files actually exist (VID_00107_2.AVS.1.264 and VID_00107_2.AVS.2.264).
You might also try turning two-way encoding off and trying again.

From memory, when I got the error, I saw all 4 files, AVS.1.264 thru AVS.4.264 in the folder. I never shut down multi process when I switched to ffdshow.

Try muxing by hand using the .META file and the 264 files that are present and see what happens.

Jdobbs, please check the debug thread. I continued there, thers is definitely something weird going on with that disc. I will try a dvdfab rebuild just to see if it can shrink it properly.
