Nandub 1.0rc2 crashing: ECF or something else?

Hi all:

I am using Nandub 1.0rc2 to encode a movie, and it's crashing consistently at the beginning of the 2nd pass with "Integer divide-by-zero". Searching these forums, I've seen the 3Mb. ECF file problem repeteadly mentioned, and I thought it could be that, since the movie is quite long (138 min.), but the thing is that I am not using any ECF files (I think... the "ECF" section in "SBC settings" is blank), so I don't know what it could be.

My computer is a 800 Mhz. Duron NOT OVERCLOCKED, running Windows 2000 SP1. I am using DVD2AVI as frameserver (following all the steps in Doom9's SBC guide), and I have the VobSub filter to add subtitles (but I tried removing it and it crashed too). I have tried tweaking the parameters in SBC settings (putting different values in "curve modulation" and stuff like that), and it has crashed everytime. Anybody has any idea of what it could be?

(The crash dump is too long, but I can post it here if you need it. Also, if you need to know any other information, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks in advance).

are you using any other filters?

i had similar problem when using certain filters, ie 2:1 reduction high quality. changing to resize filter and resizing myself worked.

Yes, I am using the "Resize" filter too (720x576 down to 640x346, using precise bicubic), but I just tried removing it and it crashed too. Perhaps I should try to do the first pass again without "resize", and then do the 2nd pass again?

(One more thing: is the Nandub that comes bundled in Gordian-Knot the same one than 1.0RC2? Should I try with it?)

It's the "improved" version of Nandub, that has the ecf file bug corrected and also luma corrected (for use with Fast recompress).

Well, I just tried with the Gordian Knot version... and it crashed too. Of course, I didn't do the full process from the beginning; I just loaded the stats file that I already had (created by 1.0rc2) and started the 2nd pass...

I could do the whole process again (generating stats file and all), but I don't know if it's worth it; I doubt that it has to do with the bug. Any other suggestions?

Hi-I have a friend that had a similar problem (using an incompatable version of Nandub) that was resolved by dumping it and reinstalling GKnot. He reran the first pass and had no further problems. You might test by making a .d2v for just a piece of the movie, like just one of the vobs, and then run the 2 passes to see if the problem is cured. Or maybe do 2 passes with the Compressibility Test.avs. That way you'll find out much more quickly if the problem is cured.

Hi all:

Just a short note to mention that my problem disappeared once I used the Nandub version that comes with the latest Gordian Knot (the 0.23 update), the one with both the ECF and the luma fixes.

Now I have a problem with audio out of sync... but that's a subject for another thread.
