Hi Guys, we've just released SolveigMM Video Splitter 3 with support of frame acuracy editing of h264 video (in addition to MPEG-2 and Windows Media)

http://www.solveigmm.com/en/products/video-splitter/

It would be grate to have a feedback / suggestions or bug reports.

- New and improved interface
- MOV/MKV/MP4/AVCHD formats frame accurate trimming and joining
- Thumbnails on timeline feature
- Time format switching (time and frame\ time)
- Now it is possible to set markers within a frame (it is useful in case one frame is too long - 1 minute or so)

http://www.solveigmm.com/images/stories/PR/interface-video-splitter3-eng.jpg

We'll post here a demo key shortly.

Interface:

I like the interface the storyboard is nice, and you find fast your way without reading the manual how to use it getting the idea of fragments (the batch functionality) and the slider, markers very nicely layed out (also the time zoom function) very different to what all the Chinese All in one Converter Studios and Splitters do :)
Also from a Design Point it looks more Windows like then in comparison Avidemux QTs framework (though that says nothing about efficiency, robustness and quality) or i guess you could also make the compare with VideoRedos Interface which isn't so nice (also 1 very big plus you don't brake the editing flow with different editing modes but allow anything in 1 task) :)

So for the Interface a clear 1 ;)

Engine (Dshow based):

As expected to reach frame accuracy it uses Smart Rencode with Elecards H.264 Encoder hehe i missed that Elecard logo ;) though you have overwrite capabilities of decoder and encoder decisions it seems :D this makes it also very unique as the Preview can be accelerated either via DXVA native/copy back or Quicksync :)
The Preview of H.264 is by default done with the Elecard Decoder, parser/muxer <- (here most of the issues will come from) in the backend are all Solveigs own ones as expected :)

VideoRedo Smart Reencode = Mainconcept
SolveigMM Smart Reencode = Elecard

PS: Dimtry your Introduction Video cant bee seen here in Germany (its blocked) as the GEMA didn't bought the rights for the Music used in it in Germany (YoutubeID @ least marks it as such) ;)

.works here (win7 64), seems to do the job.

-
.There seems to be some Elecard logo issues.
.The editing gui is (at least) two pane (player, recorder) and nothing will change that, not even fcp x.
.The colors in gui should be really pale (if unsure what that means: don't use colors), video must stay in center focus all the time.

Ulf, could you make log files to determine the problem?

Use this instruction: How can I record log files (http://www.solveigmm.com/en/faq/how-to-record-log-files-of-solveigmm-video-splitter/)

Hi Cruncher,
Thank you for good opinion. To make a right stoybord was a really challenge :)
BTW - didn't know that Redo uses MC.

>>that Elecard logo
Tha's not a bug, that's restrictions of evaluation version. After registration - no logos, neither in preview nor in transcoded parts.

>>The Preview of H.264 is by default done with the Elecard Decoder, parser/muxer <-
Not for all AVC formats :)

Yeah, I know, I also can't watch it. :(
We are changing audio layout there.

Well, may be it makes sense to add some color sets.

Use this instruction: How can I record log files (http://www.solveigmm.com/en/faq/how-to-record-log-files-of-solveigmm-video-splitter/)

No need. I found the problem. After uninstalling MysticThumbs it works. MysticThumbs is a software that generates thumbnails of many image formats not natively supported by Windows. Seems to interfere with SolveigMM Video Splitter 3.

Correction:
It had noting to with MysticThumbs - just a coincidence that SolveigMM worked after uninstalling MysticThumbs. I have a system with an Optimus NVIDIA hybrid graphics card. In the NVIDIA Control Panel I set the preferred graphics processor to "Integrated graphics" and SolveigMM works again. I did the same for Subtitle Workshop and finally I got the movie preview window to work.

Editing is always partially picture comparison and single window editor will mostly make that more difficult (even something that may be seen as strictly technical goes into the same basket imho).

One could improve on that with some simple addons as well : "view X-comp" and "EE" buttons on the record side.
X-comp - shows 50:50 recorder and player frame for the time that button is pressed.
EE - shows player frame in record window for the time that button is pressed (fast switching must be possible). That is old fashioned tape to tape standard.

(I'am amazed there is no nle that would offer this two)

When one picks the START/END frames, are they included in the cut or not?
Smart rendering occurs up to I-frames or IDR-frames (important for DVB-S2 streams, and why not, for older PCs)?
Are all streams (say TXT, DVB-subtitles) kept and processed?
What about variable delays, so often found in SAT recordings (main features has an audio delay, the commercials another), are they accounted for?

Sorry for these questions, I know that I can download the trial and do myself this, but I don't install trials PER DEFINITION on my working PC.

Found a bug: When typing in the end time of the scene that you want to split, on the right counter if you type in the number 3 and anything above 3 (4, 5, 6 etc) for milliseconds (example: 00:11:26;30) it causes the whole timer to jump up one second (so if I type in the previous example, the timer jumps to 00:11:27;00 instead of staying at 00:11:26;30). However if you type in the number for 1 or 2 for the milliseconds it works (00:11:27;20). So this must be a bug as I am not able to accurately put in the end split time I want into the timer. This happened with any video format.

Hi Folks,
sorry for delayed answers.

andybkma, that's not a bug, because format is h:min:sec;frame, so the latest digits are frames.

You can also change it to h:min:sec, millisec, but then you'll see 3 digits in this field

Ok, I understand the idea that you need to preview somewhere a possible editing result before you start it's rendering. We'll do such a feature but probable in the same window, it is necessary to think about. But in any way, we are going to make version 4, with ability to work at the same timeline with multiple files (now only one file in timeline depicted).

>>Smart rendering occurs up to I-frames or IDR-frames (important for DVB-S2 streams, and why not, for older PCs)?
Good question, actually IDR can be meet in an input stream very seldom, so at the cue-points we re-make IDR (something like that, can't tell you full details)

>>Are all streams (say TXT, DVB-subtitles) kept and processed?
Not yet :(

>>What about variable delays, so often found in SAT recordings (main features has an audio delay, the commercials another), are they accounted for?
Not yet, but in our to-do list.

>>Sorry for these questions, I know that I can download the trial and do myself this, but I don't install trials PER DEFINITION on my working PC.
If you want, we'll send you a key for evaluation.

Ah, thank you. That works much better now :)

Am curious to know if you plan to add .flv support in the near future? Any .flv file I try gives me error "source file is not supported or damaged". If you added support for this type of file that would then make your lossless splitter the most complete and excellent in the marketplace...

Edit: Did have problems testing with MPEG-1 files (tried more than one). The little window "now splitting the sequence..." would often hang around 20%-50% and would not finish splitting the file. Thankfully I hardly ever need to losslessly split mpeg-1 files anymore but I thought I would report this problem just the same...

Yes, FLV are in todo list.
As for slow editing of MPEG, I think it is a new problem to be intoduced quite recently. should be sixed shortly.

Yes, variable frame rate. I asked, because I have never seen (commercial) software support (or work even by accident) VFR unless it is specifically mentioned as a feature. :)

I have to give it a spin at some point, then.

Well probably we should claim that as a feature. We would appretiate if you try that with such a file, and upload us such a sample. We've tested mostly vfr with Windows media - as screen codec always produce such a video.

I was trying to do some trimming operations (not at a keyframe boundary) with an interlaced H.264 MKV here:

http://www.4shared.com/video/eCsT9qK-/La_Traviata__2010__2_min_HD_i_.html

I was able to generate a MKV which plays in VLC, but the output is a blank screen with MPC-HC (latest stable version on SourceForge). The original MKV plays back fine in both VLC and MPC-HC. I suspect there is some issue with the MKV remux code in the software, but it would be nice to confirm the issue (and see if it needs to be passed on to the MPC-HC devs or it is something for SolveigMM to fix).

I had no such trouble with a 720p24 clip in the MOV container.

just a little success story ;)

i was in a hurry to fast cut something because of size reasons (cloud storage) and SolveigMM Video Splitter achieved that .mp4 H.264 cut goal perfectly with keeping the last frame alive :)

not sure if Video Splitter actually via direct brian connection told me exactly where to cut to reach that very exact size :D on the first try

which also makes me wonder if you couldn't actually as a feature request calculate the final estimated file size of a fragment and show it someway to the user ;) ?
Maybe displaying the estimated filesize of the fragment in its fragment bar directly ;)

How does it handle I-frames? For example, avidemux can't export/save a file if a segment doesn't start with an I-farme, so you have to be very accurate and make sure each cut starts with an I-frame.

It reencodes first GOP(group of pictures between I-frames) if cut starts not from I-frame. And sometimes reencodes last GOP.

This makes trimming frame accurate. You can make cut exactly from frame you have selected, even if it is not I-frame.

CruNcher
3rd March 2012, 14:13
Yep thus also it shouldn't be used for test samples of different encoders ;) as you would compare in the worst case Elecards with your target Encoder ;) and not the Encoder who initially did the GOP ;) though normaly you dont cut your test sequences and if you do you know about this anyways and would only cut appropriately or use something without Frame Accuracy support ;)

Hmm, very neat, but how does it know what settings to use? Does it detect the settings that were used for encoding the video and then tries to use the exact settings, or it just uses some default settings?

Nice question indeed i guess they are smart enough to analyze the base bitstream to some degree and use those settings ;) though to be sure you could do a simple test encode Cut such a GOP that you know will be reencoded and then analyze it to find out if they matched the initial encoder settings or if they use something similar especially in the case of x264 it would be very easy to match as it gives you the metadata in the user_sei without needing to analyze anything further on the bitstream level @ all ;) .

I tried SolveigMM and while there are some nice things there are some major interface issues.

Good:
• Splits files and keeps audio in sync. I'm surprised at how many splitters out in the wild can't keep audio in sync
• Video preview. Many other splitters require you to enter a time
• Option to save fragments, invert selections.
• Thumbnails/storyboard

Bad:
• Difficult to select marker without moving it. These 2 functions should be separated as many other editors do: selecting and moving. When trying to get to a marker by clicking on it you will often end up moving it a little unless you hold your mouse perfectly still. This is annoying and can be solved by better design. For example clicking on marker will pop up a drag icon underneath it, the drag marker is then used to make adjustments. Clicking on same marker again will make drag icon disappear or it will also disappear when you clicking on a different marker because newly clicked marker gets the drag icon.
• Difficult to select closely placed markers, especially difficult when markers overlap. Need: Marker navigation buttons. Other editors typically have buttons that let you go to the marker instead of having to click on it. Something like 2 buttons: 'go to next right marker' and 'go to next left marker'.
• Difficult to tell what navigation controls such as play/next frame/etc will move: marker or slider. For example, open a file, go to middle of video and set a marker. Take a screenshot and tell me what will move when you press play. Now click on the marker in middle. Take a screenshot again and tell me what will move when you press play. The screenshots will look very alike but different things will happen. This is bad design. If you show the 2 screenshots to someone new to your program they should be able to tell right away without studying the interface. In the second case, the line under the slider is still blinking which makes you think the video preview corresponds to the slider when it does not, the slider is still orange when it should be greyed out or otherwise marked as inactive, and the marker which you clicked on should somehow be emphasized such as with overlay icon or being circled, etc.
• Smart mode/frame accuracy is always enabled. All options under control menu should stick, but after closing and restarting the program, Smart mode is enabled again even if you disabled it. Some people might not want any re-encoding.
• Help suggestion: you should have a page explaining what GoP is, what k-frames are and what smart mode means. It's a good feature. If you label your controls 'next k-frame' then the meaning of that should be explained somewhere

Hello jakmal,

Latest version of video splitter had some bugs on this file so i was unable to trimm it not from K-frame.

There is fix available:

SolveigMM_Video_Splitter_3_0_Beta (http://www.solveigmm.com/download/SolveigMM_Video_Splitter_3_0_Beta.exe)

Could you check it on your side?

If issue still exists:

Could you point which interval you've selected to trimm,

Also MPC uses some externals filters, that could be installed on your system.

I need to know which ones.

Play->Filters will show filters that was used.
on each filter there should be Properties menu.
If you will provide screenshoots of propties pages for these filters it will be more fast to find out what's wrong.

Thanks.

ฃ33.50 vs ฃ61 (videoredo tv suite). Nice value compared to their application! Your interface is VERY nice! I just tried using your software, the audio was kept in sync which wasn't in videoredo BUT it look me several minutes to figure out how to cut, i was unable to select a section of the video. I still don't know how i managed to set the start and end times to select, not intuitive at all! Out of curiousity what happens with version numbers, upgrade costs etc? V3.x will be free upgrades, v4.x will require an upgrade fee? Any lifetime subscription option of say €80.

Greets, been using your splitter for a while now. Currently using 3.2.1208.20 available from your website. One thing really annoys me is that whenever I open a file with it the gui resizes itself often so large that the control buttons on the bottom disappear off the visible area of my monitor so I have to keep resizing the gui. Could you fix it so that if I resize the gui once that it doesn't keep resizing itself whenever I open a file with it? That would be great... cheers

Any VideoRedo users out there. How is this product compare to VideoRedo for frame accurate editing of 1080p and 1080i NTSC sources?

Last I checked VideoRedo was not as frame accurate as expected, but the authors explain its a technical limitation of H.264 codecs encoding.

Sorry, I'm not their user, can't say anything :D But we definetely beat them in a number of supported formats.

Ours - WEMB, AVCHD, MOV, MP4, WMV/ASF, MKV, MPEG2, MPEG-1, AVI and audio WAV, MP3, WMA

FLV is coming.

Ist there any way to change the behaviour of the "smart mode"? Because when cutting AVC material (HD-DVB-records, maybe with some errors) I get videos that stutter with certain video-codecs. VLC for example doesn't like some of them, MPC-HC with external ffdshow, too. But internal MPC-HC decoder works just fine, as does MPC-HC with external LAV. Without "smart mode" everything is just fine. And the source files play fine in every one of these.
May that be related to the Elecard codec? It was mentioned earlier in this thread as being used for "smart mode". (Which btw can't be turned of permanently.)

Ah, thank you. That works much better now :)

Am curious to know if you plan to add .flv support in the near future? Any .flv file I try gives me error "source file is not supported or damaged". If you added support for this type of file that would then make your lossless splitter the most complete and excellent in the marketplace...

You could try recent SolveigMM_Video_Splitter_3_7_Beta (http://www.solveigmm.com/download/SolveigMM_Video_Splitter_3_7_Beta.exe) It has FLV files support.

Could you upload the file as an example + intervals you have selected. You can write directly to SolveigMM technical support team (http://www.solveigmm.com/en/support/)

Well probably we should claim that as a feature. We would appretiate if you try that with such a file, and upload us such a sample. We've tested mostly vfr with Windows media - as screen codec always produce such a video.

Better test late than never. :)

I tested with some VFR MP4 files (h264,aac) and mostly works fine.

However, I noticed one serious problem with Win7 home premium: Runtime errors with splitting/trimming almost every h264+aac files I've tried with. Using compatibility mode for XPSP3 mostly solves this.

I should have added: or I get to see only the first frames of a video and then i stays that way, although the audio plays just fine on these vids.
I encoded a video, that was processed two ways, before encoding: clean cut (smart mode) and rough cut (no smart mode). Then cut it afterwars without smart mode to post samples here (should be correct like that, right?):

Just tried out the demo version of Video Splitter 4 (4.0.0.1401.28) with a raw HDV 25p clip (m2t remuxed to mpg).

Made some random cuts and excised several of the 'fragments'. On playback (MPC-HC, VLC) the render flashed black and jumped at every splice point. Couldn't do any further tests as the number of 'operations' in the demo (once I'd figured how to use it) was limited to 5 (I think).

Tried the same thing with a 15-day trial of Pegasys (TMPGenc) Smart Renderer 4 (trial version puts a watermark on re-encoded frames). Perfect result every time and was able to go on to test other input (raw AVCHD/Mp4/MOV clips from - Pana TM900, Canon HF G10, Lumix DMC-G6 and crummy iPhone) and output formats. No problems. Possible to use mixed input formats and edit/render to master clip format, with good results. Very impressive. Only criticism is that is not possible to edit multiple clips on a single timeline view (same as it's predecessor MPEG Editor 3) and the number of edit effects is fairly limited....although adequate for basic editing (titles, transitions).

SolveigMM Video Splitter 4 - $49.95 - license for 1 PC
TMPGenc Smart Renderer 4 - $69.95 (upgrade $43.95) - license not PC limited.

Seriously, why would I buy your product?

Seriously, why would I buy your product?

Firstly, I am glad to see that you now provide a 21 day trial period with the demo (unlicensed) version, instead of limiting it to '5 operations' as you did with version 4. As such, I have been able to properly evaluate the product (the Home Edition, that is), for my needs.

I've just run a few tests with some native AVCHD sample clips from several Panasonic and Canon camcorders, including my own Canon Vixia HF-G10, and have the following comments:

1. The native MTS clips from the Panasonic camcorders/cameras (TM700, TM900, Lumix G6) all loaded OK (albeit slowly), but none of the MTS clips from the Canon models (HF-G10, HF-G30, HF-S20) would load. The cursor just spins (as pending) and goes into a blanked out "program not responding phase. Eventually (if you wait long enough) GUI Preview/Control view does return, but only the audio is loaded. Appears that the video stream never reaches the file indexing stage. After conversion to MP4 or MKV, the clips open OK, and quite fast, but that's not something I'd want to do routinely. So why the issue with the Canon MTS files?

2. That said, I am very impressed with the quality of the 'frame-accurate' trimming. Ran a number of tests with 1080/60i, 60p and 30PF (and some 1080/50p) clips, making random cut-excisions. The produced (selected) 'fragments' all played perfectly. Examining closely I could not tell which frames had been re-encoded and when I analyzed the streams with Elecard's StreamEye (demo version) the repeating GOP sequence looked no different from a source clip. Now that I find very encouraging.

Although in my last post I enthused about the Pegasys (TMPGenc) Smart Renderer 4, when I came to look more closely at the frames it re-encoded at the excision points (and on either side of splice points) they were visibly lower quality. Analysis with StreamEye confirmed that these frames were encoded at a lower bitrate than the source and with a different GOP pattern. Pegasys states that it uses x264, but it is not clear what encoding parameters it uses for these GOP 'repairs' - except that it reports the bitrate control mode of the source MTS clips as VBV and encodes VBR by default.

Looking at the Smart Mode Settings (under Preferences) in Video Splitter, where it seems to list all of the video codecs on my PC, it shows Elecard AVC Decoder (Custom) and Encoder (Custom) as the 'chosen' codecs for processing these MTS clips. Is it reasonable to assume that these came from the Elecard StreamEye program on my PC and not the Video Splitter package itself, and on what basis does it make that codec choice?

3. What disappoints me is that in order to join the produced 'fragments' you have to go into a separate tool (Join Manager) and load the fragments again. Surely it would be possible to give the option to cut/excise and re-join in one operation from the Control Panel (timeline)?

If you could sort that, and the issue with loading Canon MTS files, I might be interested in using your product for preliminary trimming.

Cheers.

Is it reasonable to assume that these came from the Elecard StreamEye program on my PC and not the Video Splitter package itself, and on what basis does it make that codec choice?Might seem reasonable, but ain't correct: The Elecard Codecs are installed by SolveigMM Video Splitter and thus set as default. At least that was the modus operandi with earlier versions and I have the codec, too, but never (knowingly) installed any Elecard products, as I made poor experiences with those a bunch of years ago.

Guess I could prove that to myself my uninstalling Stream Eye, but it was just a point of interest and I'll take your word for it.

Edit: I see the Comapany Overview on SolveigMM's website states that "SolveigMM has been a unit of the Elecard Group since its founding" and the Elecard website confirms that; so that explains it.

All I can say is that using the (Custom) Elecard codecs for 'frame-accurate' trimming of my test AVCHD clips, Video Splitter does produce the desired results.

If you're cutting and joining fragments of the same source, you could just use the "trim" button. Then all fragments marked "cut …" will be cut out. Or did I get you wrong?

No you got me right and you're right - thanks a lot. I was using the function (button next to Trim) that gives the option to save "all fragments" and then the option to exclude those segments not selected ("marked as cut off") which naturally saved the selected fragments as separate files. Using Trim, the selected fragments are joined together.

OK, so that's resolved. Just leaves the issue of not being able to load native MTS clips from my Canon HF-G10.

Always happy to help!… that "SolveigMM has been a unit of the Elecard Group since its founding" …Well, I certainly didn't know that, but it explains the choice of codec, obviously. The results are really good and accurate. I've got to give credit to that!

I don't really know any more, what exactly the problem was with Elecard at the time. Maybe it was smt. about the MPEG2 decoder. Anyway, something back then didn't quite work the way I expected it to (for an extended period). I guess, things do change - luckily.

Saving all fragments, exluding those selected to cut out, is handy for example if you recorded a TV show, including introductory and closing remarks and now want to save those as seperate files, mabye later adding a playlist or something.

Now that I think about it … mkv has the abilty to include chapters. Maybe I'll look into that on the weekends.

Those Canon MTS issues will be solved. Bugs usually get fixed soon. You might want to register at the … ah, did it already, hu? http://www.solveigmm.com/forum/index.php?topic=4837.0

But now I've got to get the demo and try editing files with subs. Have been waitin for that feature for some time now.:thanks:

Yes, SmartRender 4 does titles and transitions....chapters as well.

http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tmsr4.html

I used it quite a bit for native trimming of HDV clips, with very good results, but with AVCHD (1080/30PF) files I've been a bit disappointed with the quality of the frames it re-encodes, which can extend to a couple of GOP's either side of a splice point. Mind you, if you are thinking to insert a transition at every cut-splice point that wouldn't be an issue. In it's favor, it is frame accurate. Video Splitter claims to be, but with my AVCHD clips I found that it always drops the last 2-3 frames of each trimmed segment, irrespective of where the cut is made. Still waiting (2months on) for a fix on that. Another nice feature of SmartRender 4 is the 'Smart Rendering Analyzer' which shows the frames that will be re-encoded.

Give the trial a whirl. It might be what you are looking for.

Thanks, will give it a try later today. One workaround I'd thought of was to create a short clip to be used as a "transition" but found it difficult to create one with specs that wouldn't "mess up" the joined file... I suppose I could use a "black" clip made with my action cam. Wouldn't work for the title though.

It seems to me there would be a bit of a market for that kind of app with all the videos being posted these days!

Solveig Multimedia unveils Video Splitter for Android, enabling smartphone users to tweak their video before sharing.

December 2, 2015 – Tomsk, Russia. Solveig Multimedia, a provider of video editing and analysis software, announces TriMP4, a native Android application, subset of their acknowledged desktop solution – SolveigMM Video Splitter for Windows.

Over the years, Video Splitter has topped industry ratings for seamless and lossless video editing. The software operates with pre-compressed FLV, AVC/H264, MP4, MOV, AVCHD, MPEG-2, MKV, MPEG-1, AVI, WMV, MP3, WMA files. The editor removes unwanted parts of the video in just a couple clicks, cuts and joins up video and audio streams.

Like its desktop sibling, TriMP4 does not employ any encoding/decoding processes, supports K-Frame accuracy quality and keeps data intact.

As smartphones and tablets outpace traditional cameras on the market, Solveig aims to introduce lossless video trimming to the booming mobile audience. The software enables Android users to make necessary cuts in smartphone video before sharing.

In contrast with competing mobile applications, Solveig focuses on ease-of-use, output quality and productivity rather than resource-hungry effects.

Features include:

• Intuitive interface and easy start-to-end navigation
• Embedded video player
• K-Frame editing of MP4 files
• Selection of video-only or audio-only editing
• Maintained video orientation, and many others!

The new app is available free of charge at Google Play and works smoothly on Android-based devices running ver. 4.0 and higher.

its been a while since last post :)

We just published SolveigMM Free Online Video Editor
(https://freevideoeditor.online/)

Ist sill operates in smart mode (wihtour full re-encoding) and has many features besides cutting - image overlay, adding audio, adding text and even chromakey.
Please feel free to try. So far its free and has no ads, no watermarks.
