Scenarist 5 Authoring Questions ??

Doing a title on Scenarist 5.2 and have some questions for the experts:

1. Where is the Download Function Tool for outputting a BDCMF? I didn't see it in this new client's system. The files wrote fine but was curious.

2. I did not include a checksum to the replicator since I haven't in the past. What exactly is a checksum? How do I preform one? Whats its purpose? Is there a concern here?

3. If Im on a ButtonPage on a Title and wish to go to another title while setting a SetButtonPage. How is this done? It only allows me to access the Pages and Buttons in that title only. Is this a Dummy Button function?

The name changed to CMFRemotingServer and is automatically called at the muxing stage (if you choose to output a CMF)

I think a CMF already contains a checksum in one of its files. Checksum is an "integrity" code that tells you if the file was modified/contains differences from the source in some way. If the checksum prior of send the file, and the checksum after the file was sent is different, then there's something wrong.

You can't go directly from an IG in one title to a specific zone of an IG of another title. You need to use GPR registers and precommands.

Sometimes this doesn't load fast enough though, and the mux will fail with an error about a server not responding or something... If that happens, just re-do the CMF part of the mux (since the server tool should now be open). Best option: Open MuxRemotingServer and CMFRemotingServer before starting your mux, just so they are ready.

I have icons for these two on my desktop... (I can't remember if the Scenarist install includes them on the desktop or not...)

BDCMF.CMF is the file that contains the checksums for all of the other files (obviously, only itself is excluded). A replicator really shouldn't need anything more than that... But I have encountered one, once, that insisted in a separate checksum file for all files transmitted... This is just a text file if you want to look at it, the checksums will be near the bottom of the file.

There's a free tool called md5summer that I use for this (www.md5summer.com). There's plenty of others as well, this is just the one I use... It can do MD5 or SHA1, if the replicator doesn't care, MD5 should be fine.

If you are sending to Sony for replication, I believe they have their own tool for generating their preferred checksum file, they'll send it to you if you ask.

I sent the Dts0 Folder to the replicator on a HDD. It does contain the BDCMF.CMF file. The Replicator is Sony in New York. I sure hope this project is done on my end? :)

I'll make sure I have MD5 for the next time.

I think if you are sending on a hard drive, you should be okay...

If you transmit digitally, they have a tool called Media PreFlight that is used to generate a special checksum file. I don't know if it's required for a HDD delivery or not. I haven't shipped to Sony in a while, so they may have stopped using it, but if they get back to you expecting a specific checksum file, that's probably what they want.
