Get rid of the useless and annoying black screen that pops up every time a user tries to do anything in the forum.
The first time we see it - fine - message delivered.
The 2nd time we see it - annoying.
The 3rd time we see it - anger.
The 4th time we see it - we surrender and go use some other forum!

I think you didn't get what this is all about => yes, it's utterly annoying to click away the black screen after each page load on this forum today but you should remember that once SOPA/PIPA are put into practice there is gonna be much more annoyance all around the web from day one, and then you'll have no option to click away the annoying message. At least this forum is still accessible, even today whereas many more sites are simply on strike throughout whole day and I fully agree and support their decision. If you feel annoyed than go and sign the petition (http://sopastrike.com/strike) so that your voice is heard by those who are about to censorship anything they want to. I did though I'm not US citizen - the internet knows no boundaries.

It might be similar elsewhere though (like wikipedia), but the javascript blocking per domain is working fine for me.

I understand the issue and, like I said in my post, I got the message - and my comment stands - continuing this black screen is just ridiculous.
I wasn't able to block this script specifically (tried but gave up after a few attempts) so I just disabled java script for now.

I used the element hiding helper for adblockplus to get rid of it. The first 20 or 30 times were okay, but then it did start to get a little annoying.

It's gone now anyway.

And sadly, if SOPA/PIPA becomes active a black screen is all you US-residents will get. As annoying as you, Rich86, thought it was it's nothing compared to the Orwell's 1984.
That being said: Don't comment here, act instead!

Seconded. We debated where to put the script - and I know it's very annoying and throughout the day I needed a bunch of sites that simply weren't there - the point was to show just how badly big content can mess up the Internet if such laws get passed and to annoy people just as much so they'd be willing to spend a few minutes to take action.
As Edmund Burke said: All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing Copyright law has gone seriously wrong for the past 20 years and will continue to go wrong unless something is being done.

Doom9, thanks for participating in this vital protest. The blacking out was a small price to pay to raise people's awareness.

Hopefully this experience taught you all to browse with javascript disabled.

Well, you are in a position where you can do something.

Actually I sent you a private message a week ago about this but I haven't got any response. My thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=163771) was closed, and I was continously persecuted and threatened by a moderator. Nothing too different from what has happened today with megaupload by the FBI.

Because of fighting and justifying my reasons for innocence I got 2 strikes I don't deserve, so I am a clear example that what you talk about is beautiful in paper, while you look to the other side.

@Dogway
Stop crying like a baby. You are not banned after all.
Discussing the rules is against the rules iirc.

For your hypothetic future pirated material you know you can go to this other forum like you did before :

Just lol.

MatLz. Don't take it personal, I am discussing Doom9's comment which sounded hypocrital from my own experience (people are lines not points in time), I contacted to him and I didn't get any response, that's more baby's doing than giving a well founded contrary opinion on a post comment, don't you think?. Even you do sound childish.

All Doom9 forum asks is to not get involved into piracy discussions, like the one you are getting now. It doesn't want to take any risks or controversed for censorship from outside. They don't care what you do with your life after Doom9, if you are a good boy, or if you donate to Red Cross, really, wake up MatLz, and retire the last comment because in the hypothetical case it is true, you are putting Doom9 in a controverse. Do you understand?

Closing as the issue is over and the thread has devolved. Dogway will be taking a vacation for 30 days.

I'm going to amuse your OT for a moment, but keep in mind going OT is generally not okay.
Not so long ago I found an article on digg (or was it slashdot?) on the TSA expanding security checks to subway / train stations (for those that don't know, the people that harass you at security checks at airport in the USA) - and a discussion ensued about what your options are. And it boils down to this: You have the right to refuse the check, but in that case, you cannot ride the transport (same deal for the security check at the airports). And if you do raise too much of a strink, an actual police officer might just come and hold you - so the worst thing you can do is raise a stink on the spot. The people working there, are mostly just doing their jobs and it's not in their purview to change the rules.

You can easily adapt that to this forum - every now and then, a post raises certain red flags with regards to our policy on copyrighted content. A mod will ask you a question - that you are free not to answer, but doing so also means your thread has come to an end. In your case you've gone ahead to dispel doubts about the source - and then raised a stink. Just as this will get you in trouble at a security checkpoint, it sure enough got you into trouble here. And then when you escalated the issue to the proper authorities (me) and didn't get an answer within a timeframe that satisfied you (bureaucracies work slow, and sometimes so do I), you just had to bring up the issue in public again, thus running afoul of our very strict policy on rights to appeal forfeitures.

You cannot possibly compare arrests and asset seizures with asking a question about the provenance of your source. To get back to security checks.. at the end of your flight, an immigration officer (assuming it's an international flight) will ask you some questions regarding your plans in the country you're about the enter. While you can raise a stink about that - your chances of being sent back on the next flight will increase exponentially. That's not treating you like a criminal, that's just how the system works. Being sent back doesn't mean you're a criminal either, it just means you're not welcome in that country. And the way you've gone around badmouthing this board, you are not welcome here anymore either.
And you don't have the right to an answer within a certain amount of time - every single complaint will be treated in due time, there's not one that hasn't gotten an answer (and those that chose not to play "poor me has been persecuted by xy", played by the rules and made a rational rather than emotional argument have found that I'm mostly reasonable and even lenient at times). But just like yours, the amount of free time I have varies - I've seen your PM, but those that raise a stink in public should not be surprised if their case isn't treated with the highest priority.

You're also misunderstanding the difference between a governmental imposed (due to strong lobbying by powerful operations that are the only ones to profit) censorship, by self-censorship in a private place. Yeah, we do self censor to a certain extent, but this is my private board, you're a guest and you need to play by my rules - you are my guest and it's my prerogative to ask you to adhere to certain things I find appropriate in my home and send you away. As an example, in some countries, the right to free speech include the right to deny the holocaust. However, that doesn't mean that certain people might find such talk offensive and decide to kick you out of their house. And unless that kicking out was physical, you have no legal recourse. You can go around claiming you've been persecuted, but I think that would be making an ass out of yourself.

And with that, case closed.

Last but not least - I'm so tired to death about all those people that have a bone to pick with authority and think just because it's online, it's okay to act differently than they'd act in real life.
