Good day all, I looked around the forums for awhile & after multiple tries without success I'd like to put it out to you all. I want to backup the movie only of Captain America: First Avenger. Now I would like to make it a MKV with the HD 7.1 audio intact. I use the MKV Container, 1920x1080, intact audio alternate output. but I only get 5.1 audio output. Is there a different setting somewhere that I'm missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have "Keep HD Audio" checked in the SETUP menu and also set the target size to BD-25. I know... the target isn't really related to MKV creation -- but it still has to be set (because HD audio extraction is only allowed on BD-25 or greater). I guess I need to look at changing that (even though my opinion of the uselessness of HD audio is well-documented on this forum).

Just an FYI...tried setting things up as you suggested and when the mkv file is finished, just DTS audio, no "uselessness HD audio" :D

With the cost of hard drives plumetting I've decided to make backups to mkv format and share on a NAT server. What settings would yield the equivalent mkv file size of 25gb. I usually select movie only and HD audio. Thanks.

@red23wolf
Hi!
Since your stated requirements don't include compressing video or audio, I'd suggest to you that, as an alternative to BD-RB, you should simply use MakeMKV directly that "with one click" and with NO OTHER programs needed (No need for AnyDVD or DVDFab) will decrypt and convert your selected Blu-ray file(s) to MKV - With no change to the audio...

Hi! With the cost of hard drives plumettingHuh? Due to recent floods in Southeast Asia, there's a worldwide shortage of hard drives, with prices going through the roof, while warranty periods have been drastically reduced...

Prices for 3TB USB 3.0 external drives have come close to doubling around here... glad I bought just before the flooding.

Prices do seem to be coming down now.
I looked about a month ago and was shocked, SHOCKED, at the price. After a short WTF moment I used the Google to see what was going on, and discovered that the Thailand flooding had strangled the supply. At that time the prices were pretty much double what I paid for identical drives a year earlier. Now the prices have fallen a bit to about 50% more than I paid.
So, relative to their peak, prices are indeed dropping, and pretty quickly at that. If I didn't know what the prices USED to be I might be inclined to believe that they were, indeed, plummeting. But they still have a long way to go yet before the return to pre-flood levels.

Interesting you'd mention it -- I just got home from a trip to Costco and the prices have dropped by quite a bit since I last looked.

Do not give short shrift to the other fact that I mentioned - recent announcements regarding significant reductions of warranty periods. This amounts to an indirect or "hidden" substantial cost increase...
