x264vfw / Thuban - Dropped frames/scenes

Hi,
I notice a small problem that sometimes happens on my X6 CPU. If I choose over 6treads (9, 12 or so) in the encoder settings, sometimes the encoding will be "shorter".

X4 and 6,9, 12 or whatever treads = everything is fine
X6 and 6 treads = everything fine
X6 and 7, 9, 12 or whatever (higher) treads = sometimes missing frames/scenes
original video: 1H 30min
encoding: 1H29min
This strange behaviour mostly happens if I reencode 1080p material with Thuban. Sometimes a few seconds/whole scenes are missing - sometimes "nothing is missing".
Well, if I choose still 6treads this did not happend. (but encoding is certainly slower in such a case)

Whats problem with Thuban and setting higher treads?

I'm guessing it's a problem with VFW, 1 frame in/ 1 frame out model

Do same problems occur with CLI ?

I had in past used Avidemux, Recode. Medicoder that were all not vfw based, but noticed there sometimes strange X6 behaviour too.

I also downcored the X6 Thuban to only 4cores and again dropped frames with higher tread settings.
But if I stick a Deneb (=4cores) in the same PC = everything works fine.
I also took the movie together with my whole vfw/vdub stuff and gaved it a friend with a Intel i7 2600k = everything fine.

So, this can not be vfw related - if it works with other Quad CPUs, but just only not with Thuban and it doesn´t matter if 6, 5 or 4 cores are in the Bios enabled.
It has something to do with this Thuban and x264.

What are you using to decode your source? Don't use DirectShow or at least no Decoders that skip frames when CPU is maxed out.
I'd recommend ffmpeg2source.

Mostly MPEG2, DVB-T/S (h264 or mpeg ts), mkv (h264/VC1) and I understand what you mean with the problems of Direct Show Input filters.

But at last it didn´t explain that it works fine at other Quads.
If I set 12 or for example 50 treads @ X4 955 Deneb, this maxed out this Quad 100% - but it did never drop any frame.
So, why did this only happen with Thuban CPU? :confused:

Sorry to ask, you do or do not understand what I was saying about the Direct Show input filters?

Very strange indeed. At least 12 threads is very very well tested, as it's the default for most of the Core i7 series CPUs. ((4 physical cores + 4 virtual cores) * 1.5)

Is it completely random or can you reproduce the error at specific spots? Does it only happen with x264 or also with other encoders like Xvid?

Koepi 1.3 xvid sometimes crash for me, mostly if using the new VHQ metric and/or Quartel Pixel. :(
Still Jawors build works a little bit more stable on my machine.

I am normally using vdub 1.10.0, but currently testing the older vdub version (1.9.11) and it looks like I can set there higher x264 treadings without getting any dropped frames.
Very strange, perhaps it has something to do with the vdub 1.10. video filter & post ahead Treadings + Thuban?
(1.9.11 did not have those Treading options)
