View Full Version : Playback Speed, actually Prieview Speed Issues

Hello all. I figure this has to be a newbie issue, but I can't seem to figure it out and am looking for a few places to start looking. Here's my issue:

When using either xmpeg 4.2a OR dvd2avi when I'm viewing my ripped DVD on my HD, it plays at what seems to be twice the speed. My fps is somewhere between 35-40fps while it's playing back. It also shows as the input signal jumping from progressive to interlaced and back and forth at a very high rate.

Now, this does not seem to effect my output, as a sample avi I created with the divx4.12 codec comes out just fine.

Now, this leads me into a second issuse that I've seen here posted a few times:

Xmpeg will not complete the two pass encoding. It stops right after the first pass and comes up with the "can't read or create file, make sure it's not in use..." or something to that nature that I've seen posted here a few times. If I leave it on single pass though, the movie comes out just fine. I'm not sure if these issues are related in any way, but it's bothering me alot as I like Xmpeg for it's simplicity (as I'm a newbie :)), but I know I have to be doing something wrong. I've tried reinstalling the codecs and the prgrams several times indifferent orders, but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated, and if you need more info, just ask. Thanks.

Sorry I can't help with the xmpg issue - I've never used it.

As for preview in dvd2avi going at high frame rates, it's because dvd2avi isn't a player. The preview feature is there for convenience. dvd2avi will preview frames as fast as your hardware will go.
