View Full Version : BR-What is aBitrate=*? and Size Questions

Hello, I hope everyone had a good Christmas!

I have two questions:
One:
I noticed that there is a new ALT container setting in the ALTERNATE.TXT file:
caption=MKV Container, 1920x1080, Auto-AAC
vBitrate=3000
aBitrate=*
aType=1
vFormat=5
cType=1
[00018]

What is "aBitrate=*"? And, where would I find a discription of all the options in the ALTERNATE.TXT file?

2nd Question:
I make mostly "Movie only" MKV backups, and I have "picked" 10 Gig (10240 MB) as the output size for my MKV file. (I am using the new "MKV Container, 1920x1080, Auto-AAC" option. Quality looks fine, and I am storing the files on a 2 TB HD).

My question is, would going up a little on the size increase quality or decrease speed significantly? i realise it all depends on the source material, so, instead of just picking a number, should look at the M2TS file, and divide it by 50%?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

(Thanks JDobbs for some great software!)

it sais so on top of the file mate

# The options below show up in the Alternate Output Dialog
# Settings:
# caption=Text to show on alternate selection list
# vBitrate=Bitrate to use for two-pass video encoding, * = variable (DVD only)
# aBitrate=Bitrate to use for audio encoding, * = automatic (not allowed for iPod & iPad)
# aType=Output Audio Type, 0=AC3, 1=AAC (Note: AC3 audio bitrate less than 384Kbs implies DD 2.0)
# 2=[Do not reencode -- MKV & MP4 only]
# vFormat=Video Format: 0=320x240/180, 1= 480x360/270, 2= 640x480/360, 3= 1024x768/576,
# 4= 1280x720, 5= 1920x1080, 6= 720x480/576
# cType= Container/limits type, 0=iPod (mp4), 1=MKV, 2=iPad (mp4), 3=DVD-5, 4=DVD-9, 5=MP4

THANK YOU!

I did not see that!

Dohhh!

So I am guessing that is like the VBR setting for MP3's a Variable Bit rate, right?

So I am guessing that is like the VBR setting for MP3's a Variable Bit rate, right?No. It means BD-RB will look at the source and select an optimal bitrate based on what is normal for that audio codec and that number of channels.
