Second audio track from raw DVD .vob doesn't appear in MPC-HC

My setup is as per nand's suggestions over at the Hi10P guide http://haruhichan.com/wpblog/?p=205

Haali Splitter is installed. In MPC-HC external filters, I have LAV Video decoder --> LAV Audio decoder --> ffdshow audio processor.

I have unchecked all transform filters in MPC-HC and unchecked Avi, Matroska, MP4/MOV, MPEG PS/TS/PVA, Ogg in the source filters.

When I play a single vob file that has two audio tracks, the "Navigate" menu is greyed out for most options, and the "Play"-->"Audio" shows only one AC3 track, when in fact there are two.

I can enable Japanese audio by using File-->Play DVD in MPC-HC menu and setting it in the DVD menu, but what the hell is going on?

I don't have any vob files on my PC I can use to test it with, but if you right click on the Haali splitter icon does it show more than one audio track? Assuming of course the Haali splitter gets involved when playing vob files. It may not but as I said, I can't check at the moment.
You may have better luck opening the ifo file rather than the vob file, assuming there's an ifo file for each title.

I do know what you're experiencing is normal but I've never been interested enough to learn how a DVD is structured in order to understand why. If I keep the original video stream, which I rarely do, I still split the DVD into individual titles per episode using DVD Shrink (or a single title for a movie) as I would if I was going to encode them, then I remux the individual vob files as MKVs using MKVToolnix.

Alternatively, although I've never used it myself, you could probably re-author the DVD using MakeMKV which, as I understand it, will remux the DVD into an MKV file retaining the chapter information etc but without re-encoding anything.

I assume the information regarding the alternative audio streams and navigation features aren't part of the actual vob file so you have to open the DVD "the hard way" in order to access them, but I'm only guessing. Whatever the reason, it's probably a good one for not keeping the original DVD structure, which once you've ripped the DVD to your hard drive, is really just an annoyance.

Try LAV Splitter instead, it will show all the tracks. You can disable Matroska in LAV Splitter if you need to use Haali for Matroska's Ordered Chapters.
