Pulling VOBS from Disk1 onto Disk2 How do I do that?

I'm working on Pearl Harbor and I've decided that I'll use 2 DVD-R's and cut all the extras and strip all unwanted streams (keep movie and AC3 English). Disk one is greater than a single DVD-R and I don't want to re-encode at alower bitrate. DVD2 looks like it will have room to move one of the 1gb vobs and a 200meg vob from disk 1 and still fit on a single DVD-R.

Question: How would I accomplish this in ifoedit? I tried putting the two vobs from disk 1 and the 4 other vobs from disk 2 in a directory, renaming them to be consecutive numbers 1-6 then running ifoedit and having it "create ifo's" It read all the vobs and DID create ifos but it wouldn't play in powerdvd. I did a get vts sectors as well, still wouldn't work. Is this the right process? I think I'll give it another shot, but I think I'm missing something.

You did it perfect right!

Strange that PowerDVD doesn't play it. It should play perfectly, if you created the IFOs, with IfoEdit.

Pitty that I don't have the R1 version for testing.

I found my problem, kind of...

The VOBS from disk 2 were VTS_07_07.VOB and VTS_07_08.VOB and the VOBS from disk 2 were VTS_06_01.VOB to VTS_06_04.VOB.

I put them in a directory and renamed them all to VTS_01_01.VOB TO VTS_01_06.VOB. I than ran ifoedit and did 'create ifo's' and it did create the ifo's. I then did 'get vts sectors' and it made changes.

The resulting files DO play in PowerDVD BUT it starts from the point in the movie that is in VTS_06_01.VOB (the first vob of disk 2).

How do I correct this?

I did manage to get pearl harbor on to 2 DVD-r's but I had to create IFO's of the two vob's from disc 1 first then add them to the vob's from disc 2 and then create new IFO's. The only problem is none of the chapters worked once I got to the part were the vob's from disc 2 started. I think this has to do with the vob ID's. Any comments on how to fix this problem would be greatly appriciated as it would be noce to have chapters for the last part of Pearl Harbor

Exactly what I'm trying to accmoplish. I believe the chapters worked on 'disk 2' but the movie is playing in the wrong sequence.

I grabbed the last two vobs from disk 1 (1 gigger and a 200+ megger) which were from VTS_07_07.VOB and VTS_07_08.VOB and moved them to a scratch drive. I added the vobs from disk 2 which where VTS_06_01.VOB - VTS_06_04.VOB. I ran ifoedit on them and it created ifo's which had a VTS_01 sequence. At first powerDVD was unable to play it, but I figured I had to rename all the vobs to be VTS_01, and then did a 'get vts sectors' to fix up chapters. PowerDVD was able to play, but it started with the first vob from disk 2 and then went on to the chapters from disk 1 (totally out of sequence). But I do think chapters were working. I have no idea if they were where they belonged, but I was able to forward through the movie a chapter at a time.

How did you process the last two vobs from disk one with the vobs from disk 2? I think between the two of us and Derrow we'll figure this out. It's very possible that I'll be doing this a lot for disks that end up being 2 disks as they usually don't fill the 2nd disk.

I first did exactly what you did and had the same problem, the movie started in the wrong place but the chapters were intact. the only way I could find to get the movie to play in the right sequence was to copy the last two vobs of disc 1 to a new folder as well as the IFO files. I put dummy vob files in so I could get a sequence of vob's 1-8. this way IFOEDIT could process the vobs and make new ifo's and vob's. I had to follow doom's guilde on "how to create a movie only DVD-R." Once the new vob's and ifo's are created I then had to add the vob's from disc 2 to the new vob's and change the name so that a sequence was followed. Then I copied the orignal ifo's from disc 1 over into the new folder made sure the names all matched and processed those which gave me a new set of vobs with new ifo's that played in the right order but no chapters past disc 2 vobs. I think the reason that your movie is starting in the wrong place is because the last two vobs of disc 1 has vob ID's that continue from the previous vobs of disc 1 and the vob ID's of disc 2 start new so the new ifo created starts the movie with the beginning vob ID's which happen to be from disc 2 vob. by processing the last two vobs first in IFOEDIT you fix the vob ID's so that they are recognized first. at least thats what I think

Makes total sense. Now if Derrow can just chime in and give us the down and dirty on how to handle the vobid's and chapters were all set. I'm actually learning this stuff, and I never thought I would. The first time I saw Ifoedit I thought 'i'm never gonna figure out how this works'. Now I'm starting to understand the information that it provides. Scary. This is starting to get interesting.
