NVIDIA 0-255 / 16-235 problems

I own a MSI GTX 460 Cyclone videocard with 285.62 driver. I have a problem with the output setup in the control panel:

When choosing 1080p 23,24, 50 or 60 standard profiles NIVDIA sends out a different signal than when choosing 1080p23,978 custom made resolution. With the standard 23,24,50 and 60Hz setting I have to put my display device on 'HDMI standard' so that the blacks does not look washed out and when I choose the 23,978Hz custom res. output I have to manually put my display device to 'HDMI Enhanced' to get correct blacks and whites. For the most content I play I use(need) the custom 23,978Hz profile in order to get perfectly smooth playback but when I play other content (eg tv materiaal or PAL content) I always have to manually switch my HDMI setting in my projector.

So this seems to be a bug in the NVIDIA driver. Anyone else has the same experience with this or has a solution?

With this you can set all output modes to "full range".

This is not a bug, custom resolutions always output 0–255.
Depending on what your display reports to the video card, standard resolutions may output either 16–235 or 0–255.
Both the Sony LCDs here (2010 models) are sent 0–255 whether I am using a custom resolution or not, for example.

With that inf tweak, you can force the video card to output 0–255 at all times, regardless of what your display reports.

I cannot understand why Nvidia do not simply add a Levels: Auto/PC/Video option below the refresh rate and color depth. (frankly, I don't understand why there is even an option to lower the color depth to 16-bit in 2011)
This causes so many problems and confusion and it's a really easy fix.


As for smooth playback, I recommend looking into using ReClock.
