XVID in goDromo Media Transcoder?

Hello,

I'm pondering if I should enable XVID inside gMT (http://godromo.com/gmt/doc/editor) and I would like to get feedback in this forum if there is any interest out there these days still in XVID.

We currently do have an MPEG4 coder, which is the native one that vgtmpeg/ffmpeg provides. Check all the formats we support here (http://godromo.com/gmt/doc/formats). I've done some testing and that MPEG4 encoder is alright in quality but probably XVID is superior. Also the native MPEG4 encoder provides multithreaded encoding that I'm not sure that XVID provides, so speed could be better with ffmpeg's mpeg4.

Because I'm assuming the focus these days is a lot more on h264 I'm wondering if there is much sense on including another MPEG4 encoder when we already have one. Any feedback on this, you experts, would be greatly appreciated.

I'll check this new software when I get home. Why not giving the user the option of choosing between both?

Because gMT is a cloud native app that you use from the web browser we have to think a little bit of what we put in it. The first time you use the app the codecs are downloaded to your computer and cached for later used. It's really not a big deal to add more codecs. Right know the whole native package is about 4MiB and this downloads very fast in most internet connections these days.

I personaly haven't used XVID in ages but I'm not sure of what other people are doing.

Hello I finally got around checking this and I must say this is all very impressive. Really cool to see a web app crunching this fast on my video files. I converted a few DVD folders with the ipad2 converter (http://godromo.com/gmt/profile?profile_id=3449f3c8e67f24c5) , apparently the most used, and it worked like a charm. I've been using standalone software all along but I like the idea of something that's equally fast and always available no matter what computer I use it's very attractive.

As far as the XVID thing, i for one would like to see it in there. I have an older media player that can only do MPEG4 and would be nice to get good quality conversions for it.
