I'm using DVDFab v8.1.2.5 and v8.1.3.2. I'm trying to back up Cars 2 and I keep getting these tiny vocal gaps. Everything seems fine but there are these tiny little freezes. I've tried doing "movie only" and "full disc". Any ideas? thx

Hi!
Blu-ray or DVD?

You could always wait a few days until DVDFab is updated to handle the disc properly instead of turning this forum into your personal resource for every new problematic disc you find.

@Big Oh I keep getting these tiny vocal gapsI also noted a few such (minor) instances on the primary English audiostream of the Blu-ray version...

Hey, setarip_old. It's a DVD. It's not a huge deal. Thanks for the response.
CWRO3, I thought this is what this site is about, chatting and trying to figure out each others problems. Maybe before you're rude and you rant like that you should check the DVDFab site, if you did you'd realize they JUST updated the version so a new version will be at least a week away, thanks for your help!!! How about in the future if you see my name you just DON'T respond, I would really prefer that, thanks again.

You asked "Any ideas" and he offered one: wait for DVDFab or AnyDVD to catch up to the latest protections as they always do.

Thanks Chetwood!!! I was asking if anyone had any ideas, yes... What I was actually thinking was any ideas that aren't totally obvious, I should really be more clear. Thanks for the help. When you have three kids underthe age of 7 years old and they are begging to watch the new Mator movie you kind of put a rush on backing your DVD's up so the originals stay in good condition, again, I should have been more clear.

If you'd be content with the main movie only (dropping all the extras and menus), you'd be surprised to see that almost all rippers can do the job.
I'm not a Disney fan, but the last time a friend asked me to backup him Alice, I did it using a riper whose latest update was 2003. :)
If you'd like however to keep the extras and menus, you'd probably need to turn to the latest versions of AnyDVD and DVDFab, there are also free (stripped-down) or trial versions of these.

If you still have problems with DVDFab, you could try asking on their forums. You might even get some input from the developers aswell as to your "vocal gaps" error.

mike20021969, thx for the post. I tried to go onto their forums. I must be doing something wrong because i can't find where i'm able to start a new post. I don't see anybody talking about problems with Cars 2. Im shocked DVDFab hasn't rectified the problem yet. Any suggestions would be awesome, thx

@Big Oh I don't see anybody talking about problems with Cars 2. Im shocked DVDFab hasn't rectified the problem yet.In light of the fact that you described your problem as: I'm trying to back up Cars 2 and I keep getting these tiny vocal gaps I'd suggest that you play the original, commercial DVD on the same system to see if it exhibits the same behavior.
Considering how Disney "slices and dices" their videos into myriad little pieces with seamless branching, anything is possible regarding small glitches...

setarip_old... I appreciate your interest. Whenever I back up a DVD I ALWAYS... ALWAYS play them side by side to make sure I get the correct version. I tried to send off a message to DVDFab directly and unless I'm doing something wrong, they aren't accepting any new threads.

Perhaps I'm not expressing myself clearly - This wouldn't be the first time ;>}) - I was asking if the original exhibits the "tiny vocal gaps" you referred to when you opened this thread.
If you are now saying that additionally, you are not getting a proper rip when using DVDFab, that's a different problem.
Please clarify...

No, the original is perfectly fine. You are expressing your self quite clearly. The vocal gaps are only on the backed up DVD.

FWIW I will relate an experience of mine with DVDFab.
Last year I was trying to back up Wall.E (can't remember if it was DVD or BD) in movie only mode with DVDFab.
I noticed some instances during playback of the backup copy where the movie seemed to jump a bit.
I examined the layout of the movie track on the original disc and it was split into may segments (cells?), some as small as 2 sec or less.
I examined the track on the copy ripped with DVDFab and those tiny segments were not present.
Maybe DVDFab thought these are part of the protection and dropped them.
I then ripped the same disc with AnyDVD and it was perfect. Those tiny segments were preserved.
Since then I never used DVDFab again.
This is just one experience of mine. Your problem may or may not be the same.
But try AnyDVD and see if the result is different.

Dvdfab in some cases can skip small cells like one described which would explain gaps in movie.

As I said, I am not a fan of Disney, however I did rip several DVDs in the past.
What I noticed, and this may apply here as well, is that:
- there are indeed tiny cells now and then, but these do not appear in the correct version of the movie, because:
- there are several titles with several PGC that contain more or less the same cells with additional "broken" ones, and
- only the correct version does not contain "broken" cells (nor cell commands) other than at the beginning and ending.
and
- the extras (quiz, games, interviews) are generally not protected.
So, for me, the difficulty is just to find out precisely which title contain the correct movie and if this counts, the correct menus. This can be done IMHO only with a hardware DVD player. The right combination of rippers (ie with the intelligence shifted 100% towards the human ripper and 0% left for the software ripper) seems to be the key to Disney. Tools too smarter fall much easier in the traps set by Disney.
So, in the end, I think that DVDfab probably misidentified the correct title/PGC as the main movie, thus the problems.

This problem may be the bug which I found recently.
I has the problem in DVDFab and AnyDVDRipper and CloneDVD2.
When there is tiny (about 3 sec) multi-angle cell which is consist of only one VOBU, it freezes before multi-angle cell and jump over the cell of angle-2.
I confirmed DVDs which have this feature. It is Disney, "UP" and "TOY STORY 3".
The problem is when replaying angle-2, though there is no preblem when angle-2.
It is depend on DVD player whether the problem happens or not. My old player has no problem and I didn't noticed, but new one has the problem so I noticed.
I found the reason is these softwares modifies VOB file, " non-seamless angle * relative offset" is re-wroten incorrectly.
About DVDFab(HDDecrypter);
I found the problem in ver.8.1.1.2 in August, and the bug is fixed in ver.8.1.2.1 beta after a month.

About AnyDVD(Ripper)
I found the problem in ver.6.8.5.0 in August, but the bug is not fixed in latest ver.6.8.8.7 bete yet.
http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=49248
If say honestly, I'm dissapointed to the support of Slysoft.
DVDFab(HDDecrypter) which is freeware fixed quickly, but AnyDVD which is payware is not fixed over 3 month and there is no respoce about it now.
The reason seems to be that Elaborate writes the program, not Slysoft.
I don't know whether Elaborate is alive. I send e-mail, but the reply was from Slysoft.
I think the bug is very obvious, so I think it is not so difficult if the author is going to fix it.
Regards.
