Hi

As far as I know,
subme option larger than 5 activates
RDO for mode decision, and controlled by psy-rd strength.
and then if set psy-rd strength 0 to disable psy-rd features
is it going to be worse than subme5?

so what's better between

subme 5 vs subme 6 without psy-rd ?

I've searched for this question but
I coudn't find one...

psy-rd is 'psychovisual optimizations (http://x264dev.multimedia.cx/archives/37#comments)' which requires subme 6 or greater to activate.

That is the only way subme and psy-rd are related. Don't confuse psy-rd with Rate Distortion Otimization.

You will get better quality each time you increase subme regardless of psy-rd.

So,

so what's better between

subme 5 vs subme 6 without psy-rd ?

The answer is 6. If you enabled psy-rd also, the quality would be better yet again.

The terminology of video compression is always too confusing to me...
