I believe it's what some call ghosting (what you think ?)

It has been ivtc'd with the following script:

QTGMC( "fast", TR0=1, TR1=1, TR2=1)
SelectEven()
TDecimate()

Does this problem consistently occur?
Unfortunately we can't really tell without a short video clip. Any indications it might use imported or mixed pal/ntsc footage? Is it originally pal or ntsc? About what date was it produced? It could be blended frames which often happens with bad conversions from film or to/from pal/ntsc, or even bad editing.

It's ntsc with plenty of "fields shifts" i might add which the above script fixed entirely (as far as i can tell) unlike TFM().TDecimate() but that's not the subject

This ghosting appear on many frames (not all of them though)

Or perhaps is it called "ringing" because when i read this definition (video section) (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Ringing_%28signal%29) it totally fit with what i see, only appears on vertical / diagonal edges and make sense because ghosting is more of a signal transmission error i believe, commercial vhs is not concerned.

It's just a sign of low resolution and possibly sharpness enhancement at some point in the line.

You might want to check the Avisynth wiki for halo removal. Just be careful, it can introduce an artificial look that might be worse than the original halos.

Dehalo alpha is not solving the problem, the fine details such as leafs of trees are plastified (look unatural), i've tried already
