View Full Version : Haali Splitter in "inspect" says not recommended version

Second time trying BD-RB/ Run Inspect and get everything OK except HAALI Splitter isn't recommended version. I downloaded the Matroska Splitter from your link address and got 03032011 (1.11.96.14).exe. The program seemed to work and I got a file from the 2001 BlueRay. Set at Movie Only and DVE_+R DL It will play on my computer but not on a regular DVD player.

I would also like to know if the Audio Settings are correct. When I downloaded the latest version (Beta) The Do not covert DTS to AC3 (Blue-Ray Only) is checked as well as the Do not reencode AC3 (Blue-Ray Only). Are these the correct settings for BD-9? I read a Question posted that the Default is all audio options unchecked. Which is the correct setting?

Also what are the correct settings for the Video Encoding Options and the General Encoding Options. The version I downloaded has only "use Deinterlacer on interlaced sources" checked on the video Encoding Options and Strict AVCHD for BD-5/9 Movie-Only and Movie Only Playback Loop and Remove workfiles after rebuild.

My finished file on the recorded disk ended up with a 00000.m2ts AVCHD video File. So far the only way I have gotten it to play is by using my Cyberlink Power DVD to play the disk on my computer.

Hope you can set me on the right path. Thanks

You are creating a BD disc, not a DVD, so it is logical that it will not play on a standalone DVD player. Even though the original has been compressed to fit on a DVD-DL, it is still in BD format.

Well, that answers my question. And yes, it does play OK on a Blue-Ray player. Is there a way to create a standard DVD from a Blue Ray using the BD system. Sorry, I am very new at this. Do I have to worry about the Haali Splitter not being the recommended version?

Hi! Is there a way to create a standard DVD from a Blue Ray using the BD system.Yes, you can do that using BD Rebuilder (You can also do that using "multiAVCHD").

In BDRB there is a menu option "Menu>Mode>Alternate Movie-Only Output" which will allow you to select a DVD-5 or DVD-9 output. This is not the same as a BD-5 or BD-9 output; the output sizes are the same but the formats are different. You can't do a Full BD Backup to DVD format since the menu structures are fundamentally different.

Do I have to worry about the Haali Splitter not being the recommended version?

This might be a concern. Are you sure that you actually installed the current version of Haali? Go to "Start>All Programs", find Haali in the list and run the "Media splitter settings" application to see what version is installed. Note that before installing a new version you should uninstall any previous version first. Also, you have to run the "inspect.exe" file that was bundled with the latest version of BDRB. And you are running version 39.01 of BDRB, right?

Having the wrong version of HAALI can cause problems. BD-RB checks the version by doing a checksum of the installation folder. If there is any left-over files etc. it can cause BD-RB to not recognize it as the correct version. Some of the older HAALI versions did not uninstall properly.

Uninstall HAALI and then go to the "Program Files" folder and make sure any remnants are deleted. Then install again. That way you can be sure you're setup correctly.

That is just stupid. You should restrict the checksum to only splitter.ax

That is just stupid

Hmm.... none of the other DLLs matter? I wonder why they bother bundling them together then ;)

Actually, just four of the files are essential for the core functionality. But the point is that checking non-essential files is bad, certainly uninstaller files, which are not guaranteed to be identical on each system. There are also people who do custom installs of their codecs. Having a mixture of dlls from different versions is very unlikely and broken to begin with, so that situation does not really need checking. Btw, splitter.ax has a version field, so a checksum is not really needed either.

So I'm guessing you have a tendency to be abrasive? My definition of "stupid" would be a package that when uninstalled leaves garbage behind.

If that's the case then that makes it easier.

Saying "so that situation does not really need checking" is a little silly. I can think of hundreds of issues that could come from having the wrong dlls installed -- and with older HAALI versions there was all kinds of junk left behind.

Why would anyone install custom codecs in a MatroskaSplitter folder?

Explorer does not show version info for .ax files. But it has one, which you can see if you rename it to .dll.

Why are you checking for a specific folder? I would suggest to verify the registration data to see if the filter is registered and where it is installed.

On Windows XP, explorer.exe had not been crippled yet. :)

I know, sooner or later we all (myself included) will have to upgrade to the <irony>"latest and greatest"</irony> version of Windows — notwithstanding, whenever it's necessary, we the old-schoolers will keep reminding the world that «newer not always means better», especially when the newer things come from Microsoft ;)

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{55DA30FC-F16B-49FC-BAA5-AE59FC65F82D}\InprocServer32 You're making a lot of (wrong) assumptions. I get the installation path from the registry already. In the past I then did a checksum of that folder. But now I've changed the code and it checks the version from the AX.

By the way there is a dedicated key: "HKLM\Software\HaaliMkx\Install_Dir" (add Wow6432Node into the path on a 64bit system)

Does your method work when the official installer wasn't used?
Does it work if the filter has been unregistered?

I didn't mean to start a major thread. However, my questions have been answered and the comment to completely take out the old version by deleting the files and reinstalling worked just fine. I now am able to back up without problems. Thanks for the help.

Well, after everything went fine for my first backup. Now the program will not backup anything else. Tried two Blu-Ray Disks-Decca Aida, and The Red Shoes. Backing up to a DVD-DL. Program starts OK Then gets to the reencoding portion and just sits there with no activity showing for hours (10). Task manager does show the 286 program is working on something in the background but there is no indication that it is doing much (25%CPU activity), but these is no indication on the program line that anything is happening. (the Frame indicator does not move at all and speed is ( 0.0) Even after 10 hours these is nothing showing on the bar graph. Any suggestions?

@dkland

Hi!

1) Check to see if your system is overheating. If so, clean out the innards and make sure all cards are properly seated and all connections are secure.

2) Is your system overclocked?

Tried again. Program freezes at exact same point as two previous runs. Pass 1 says 100% Freeze happens and pass two never starts.

Has been this way for two hours with nothing happening.
Task Manager says CPU Usage 25%
x264.exe*32 is at a constant 25% memory 25,744K, nothing else is running except task manager.
To answer previous post. Computer is quite cool, it is not overclocked. All other functions work as normal on the computer if I open them.
This happens now with any Blu-Ray disk I put in the computer. Very strange since the first one I tried backed up just fine. Any other suggestions?
