I did Shrek yesterday too, same software. At the beginning of the film, on the introduction screens, it switches between two languages (english and portugues, for example). Those first secons appear repeated twice, alternating both languages.
I think that in the VOB they put the introductory screens in various languages, and then some code to skip the non-relevant parts depending on the language chosen. For the films that have serveral camera angles or title screens, I'm not sure how Xmpeg will chose the parts that will finally go into the AVI.
