I have a problem with playing mkv files with dts audio. Whenever i try to use ac3filter for dts audio, the sound starts stuttering ...ever few seconds there is a break in the audio. However when i use mpchc's internal dts decoder everything is fine. I would like to use ac3filter because it has crap loads of options that i like... The builtin decoder is pretty limited.

shameless plug of my guide
follow that, and then add ffdshow audio processor to prefer in external filters, and then configure it as you wish for any processing you need.

Upon further tests, I should add that it's dts-hd that's causing the issue. Regular DTS is fine with AC3filter.
mindbomb, i'll check your guide.
thanks

IIRC AC3Filter doesn't know about DTS-HD so it just barfs everywhere. Use something like LAV Audio or ffdshow (the latter packs its own mixer as well) so you can decode the DTS core. LAV Audio + dtsdecoderdll.dll from some (all?) versions of Arcsoft TMT will decode the lossless part of the stream as well.

Yes, this is what I had to do to get it working. LavAudio+Dtsdecoder
However it's lacking the "Decode to 3 front speakers" options that AC3Filter has...I only have three speaker setup and the receiver is hooked up with the separate center/sub, left/right connections on the pc.
Is the in sound quality the same between FFDShow vs LavAudio with it comes to DTS(HD) stuff?

what i suggested was to use lav audio to decode, and then use ffdshow audio processor to mix.
but if all you are doing is mixing, can't you do that in windows 7 in the audio control panel?
cant you go there and select 5.1 and then unselect the channels you dont have?

FWIW, it's perfectly possible to set AC3Filter to only process uncompressed audio --- uncheck everything except (L)PCM, and don't let ffdshow deal with "raw" audio.
Evidently, AC3Filter cannot "see" ( or rather, "hear" :) ) anything above 6 channels.

Well sir, you are a genius.
I had to put AC3Filter as the preferred filter and selected LPCM and PCM while un-checking everything else and now it acts as a mixer along with LAVAudio. Thank you for that tip because I'm a moron when it comes to these things.
Now I have to figure out why this one particular DTS HD MA movie is causing audio delays every once in a while with while another movie works fine.

It does but I'm not sure if it actually mixes the disabled speakers or just mute them. My guess it just mutes 'em.

Far from that. :) :) :)

Perhaps it's the version of the dtsdecoderdll.dll that your LAV Audio is using  According to some ppl, 1.1.0.1 is the least problematic one, but YMMV :-/
