Hi,

yesterday I tried to encode Shrek unsing DivX 4.12 2-pass.
I ripped the DVD with SmartRipper.

The DVD is in 16:9, PAL, progressiv.
I set Xmpeg 4.2a to resize to 576, cropped the black bars.
No Audio conversion. I prefer to do the Audio seperatly.

My problem now:
The DivX file as playback problems at the beginning of the movie.
The Dreamworks-Into is ok, when "switching" to the real movie, the picture gets blocks and hangs several times, until the "in-move-into" (where all the names of the artits are listed) is finished. The hangs and bad pictures appear, every scene-change.

After that intro all is fine. No hangs, no blocks.

I noticed, that Xmpeg says the dreamworks-intro is interlaced, while the rest of the movie is progressive. If that is causing the problem, can I start encoding after the interlaced part?

And additionally at two scenes in the movie, for a few seconds the movie slows down while the sound goes on normally. Than the movie and the sound are not in sync for a few second, till the movie speeds up a bit and "catches" the sound, so the movie is in sync again.

This happens two times in the whole movie, and it is reproducable. It always happens at the same two positions.

I did a reboot of my machine and did the conversion again, and again the same effects.

Anyone any Idea?

i'm also doing Shrek and used XMpeg for video but 16:9 NTSC but I'm having no problems with video. Just audio

I'm using AzidLame to convert ac3 to mp3 then Nandub to demux. My audio is asynch even though DVD2AVI reports 0ms delay I used 300ms and it is close. My video and audio lengths are different. Would this be the problem. if so how do i correct it?

thanks for any help

Yesterday I tried again to encode Shrek, and did a fresh ripping bevor, but the same problems at the same places. Than I tried to encode using Gordian Knot. Same settings, 2-pass encodig with same resolution, and no audio processing. Perfect this time. So it seems, Xmpeg has a problem with Shrek or with my System-Config.

I used BeSweet (it is a prgramm doing a Acid-Lame-Conversion) to convert the AC3 (Demuxed with DVD2AVI) to a VBR-MP3. Than I used NanDub to multiplex the VBR-MP3 with the DivX-AVI. The Movie is in perfect sync.

The only thing to say about Kordian Knot is, that the DivX-Movie is about 300 MB smaller than it should. I told GKnot to make a movie of 2x700 MB, but the result was 1.1 GB. But for me this is only a cosmetic problem. Next time I will try a higher resolution, perhaps than I get closer to the desired filesize.

I have the same problem and so I ripped the first vobfile sepperatly in filemode with the smartripper and it works. After that have a look at the first vobfile if it have 0,99 GB everything will be ok
