View Full Version : Announcing Zoom Player v8 Release Candidate 3

31st August 2011, 21:18
I'm very happy to announce Zoom Player v8 Release Candidate 3.

It took longer than I initially anticipated, but the time didn't go to waste.
The entire Inmatrix team with a big thumbs up to the closed beta volunteer team stepped up and together we've stomped dozens of bugs, some dating back years.

Stomping out bugs is time consuming. It requires multiple user reports to finely target the bug and testing on multiple systems to ensure the fix is stable, all of which taking plenty of time.
While we waited for the bug tracking data to pour in, we used the time well.

We declattered interfaces, improved workflow and made them fully keyboard accessible.
We then added long requested usability features, such as the ability to search through Zoom Player's massive array of features and settings accessible through the options dialog.
We enhanced the internal JPEG decoder to automatically rotate pictures based on orientation information embedded in JPEG files (most cameras support this function).

And this small list barely covers the surface.

With so many changes, enhancements and fixes in the code, there was an internal discussion on whether to release a final version, or a third release candidate.
I made the decision to issue another release candidate. I feel a few weeks of testing is warranted to ensure a smooth final release.

This will be the last beta prior to the final release.
Please take this time to test the new and updated features and verify that bugs are properly squashed.

Cheers,
..Yaron Gur
..Lead . Developer

Upgrade note:
Since this is not the final version, the navigation interface skins currently available for download on the website have yet to be updated.
Once the final version is released, we'll update the existing navigation interfaces for version 8.

I don't mean to sound rude, but what advantages does Zoom Player v8 offer over MPC-HC?

I don't mean to sound rude, but what advantages does Zoom Player v8 offer over MPC-HC?

Massive configurability.

For example:

I find the MPC-HC Filter manager to be rudimentary - it's very difficult to get my convoluted filter chain *just right*, and when you want different filter chains for different file types (etc).

The Zoom Player filter manager is extremely powerful - it can be complicated if you get stuck right in, but very powerful.

Blight - thank you for the search function, I was one of those who asked for that.

I installed this to try it out and it tries to do too much on its own without really working too well with other filters. And frankly the options UI is a mess. Back to MPC-HC for me.

Gaius:
Your statement is contradictory to what Zoom Player does. Zoom Player offer the most compatible experience with other filters through the Smart Play interface, allowing you to pick and choose which source, splitter decoder and renderer filters to use based on formats, file extensions, etc...

The Advanced Options UI is as orderly as can be with the vast flexibility and customization options it makes available to you. If you like things simple, there's the basic options dialog.
The options dialog is now searchable and that every setting is well documented, which is often not the case elsewhere.

I tried RC3 using MadVR, but had issues with tearing, seems like it uses windowed mode, not exclusive mode. At least I couldn't figure out how to get it into exclusive mode.

Unfortunately my first attempt to play an mp4 file using this zoomplayer version results in a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" - "Runtime Error!"

This is before configuring anything, just installed zoom player for the first time in years to try it out... is this common, ie is it like this before I configure my preferred decoders / renderers etc?

Can you give a more detailed error report, possibly with screenshot. ZP isn't itself built in VC++, it's a Delphi application, so the error is coming from a third party.
Usually the error dialog lets you see which 'module' causes the error, which would be helpful.

Vern:
MadVR switched to exclusive mode automatically when it detects 'fullscreen' mode (video area covering the monitor's dimensions). The display setting 'video coverts entire display area' (under adv. options / playback / video) needs to be enabled (it should be auto-enabled when you select MadVR as the video renderer).
Currently, you can't move the video around or MadVR loses exclusive mode. In a ost-8 version , I'll change that so you can zoom in and adjust the video position with MadVR.

Everyone:
If you're a ZP MAX user, here's an updated build:

It enables MadVR mouse wheel functions on the Control Bar, fixes a crash viewing JPEG files with an invalid orientation value and enhances the options dialog search function.

Vern:
Your issue is with the video position not covering fullscreen?

Vern Dias
5th September 2011, 17:39
No, actually it is with the video position going beyond the screen edges.

An example is to use zoom mode to increase the image height to position the black bars encoded when the source (film) AR is 2.40:1 off of the active pixels of a projector. I am using an external anamorphic lens to give a 1.5x horizontal expansion. An example might be an image height of 1400 pixels and width of 1800 on a 1920x1080 screen.

On ZP, the MadVR status lines and GUI also are positioned with relationship to the total video height and width, not the actual video output height and width. Thus parts of it are off-screen when zooming the height or the width beyond the video output size.

There are also possible scenarios where both the width and height of the image may have to exceed the video output area {2.76:1 Aspect ratio source such as an Ultra Panavision / MGM Camera65). Another example is the BD of the Cinerama title "How The West Was Won" at2.80:1, since my screen AR is 2.65:1.

Trying to use Zoomplayer RC3 Free to play a TS file using the mediapotal file reader (works with potplayer).

I can't figure it out, if it is even possible. There seems to be no place to add the filter and then 'prefer' it. I can configure MPEG2 Transport in the smartplay thing, but the mediaportal filter isn't there. Plus there seems to be filters listed that I'm sure are not even installed.

Defcon

I purchased ZP a few years ago, at the time it was the best player out there, the most flexible and configurable. I don't know, this still may be true. But I moved on after I discovered KMPlayer which offered just as much flexibility, came with all codecs (so I didn't need to install ffdshow etc, even though ZP since then has automated that step) and good defaults. I miss ZP's navigators and a few other things, but when I try it I still spend far too much time configuring it to suit my needs. Its a strength as well as weakness, but I do appreciate all the hard work you guys put into it.

Blight
16th September 2011, 11:47
mr.duck:
You're used to how MPC handles filters with the 'prefer' modes. Zoom Player is more straight-forward, you can specify a filter by format and file extensions.
Here's a video tutorial showing how to configure smart play:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob4GS2H4M9I

ZP can use any filter as a source filter, I'm not sure what the benefits of mediaportal's file reader, but ZP has no issues with MPEG2 transport. By default Haali Media Splitter is used, but you can easily switch it to LAV Splitter or even media portal (there's no pre-defined profile for media-portal, but there's you can simply click add filter to add it.

Note that we've rewritten the smart play configuration dialogs since RC3 to make them clearer.
You'll be able to see the changes in the final version next week.

Defcon:
With each version, we're trying to make things more automatic and require less user-interaction to start playing while still maintaining flexibility that is unmatched in other players.
If you've bought ZP, then you can use your existing key with v8 free of charge.

mr.duck
16th September 2011, 22:13
I've watched the video now. It seems that it is not possible to get ZoomPlayer working with the mediaportal file reader filter. I failed to get it working both by using smart play and by changing direct show filter merits.

By default Haali Media Splitter is used, but you can easily switch it to LAV Splitter or even media portal (there's no pre-defined profile for media-portal, but there's you can simply click add filter to add it.

Haali and LAV cannot open a file that is still being written to (needed for watching live TV). The mediaportal one can. It updates the timeline in the media player every second so can keep playing indefinitely. I tired adding it, but it is not in the list. I can get it working in PotPlayer, so I assume it is a problem with ZoomPlayer.

Any alternative TS filters, anyone?

16th September 2011, 22:18
Maybe that's not the best place to ask, but how can you use ffdshow audio processor with ZP (free), after choosing LAV filters for decoding audio ?

I don't know if it's normal, but I still have this bug with madVR with RC3 (from 31/08/2011):
When I exit Fullscreen mode, the window is not at the same place it was before to go in FullScreen. It is moved at up left of the screen (linked to the option "Fiw Window movement glitches")...

2nd problem: I'm not able to have madVR seekbar.

Plus the fact Exclusive mode of madVR is not always activated. All that prevents to have a good user experience with madVR. :/

Prolly a stupid question, but does the new version of Zoomplayer support 10 bit (Hi10P) h264 video? I'm not having much luck with the CCCP versions that support it, and Zoomplayer is already my default player because of the fullscreen media browser interface.

Blight
17th September 2011, 20:10
nx6:
There's no reason it shouldn't, you just need to have the right filters in place, it's more of a setup issue than a feature issue.
LAV and FFDShow have working 10bit support. And I believe CoreAVC also added this support in v3. All of which are selectable decoding options in Zoom Player.
I've created a few video tutorials that should cover filter setup, check my sig for the link.

mr.duck:
ZP actually hooks the filters to force them to open files if they are shared by other applications (as long as they're not read-locked, which is rare).
I'm not sure if this filter needs custom work, such as a callback function that updates the player about the duration change.
It's probably a small fix, or maybe just a configuration issue.

If you would like to get 100% interoperability with media portal, please visit the ZP forum, talk with the Booga, the forum admin, tell him Yaron sent you regarding media portal interoperability and he'll get you in the ZP closed beta group section.
Open a thread about media portal, and we'll iron things out to make sure everything works perfectly.

pirlouy:
You'll notice that ZP allows you to chain several filters (the "add filter" button on the smart play configuration dialog).
All you need to do is add the ffdshow audio processing filter after it. If LAV outputs data that ffdshow can accept as input, it should work. You can see if it works when playing by right-clicking the video and looking under 'filter properties'.

ZP disables the MadVR seekbar as it has it's own seekbar with greater functionality...
If you can give a good reason why MadVR's seekbar should still be used, I'm listening.

I'll need a more detailed bug report regarding the window moving. Such as your system setup, multi-monitors? How do you exit fullscreen (keyboard/mouse/remote/etc).
The best thing would be if you could somehow make a video of the desktop as it happens (disable exclusive mode so you can record the screen).

With regards to MadVR not kicking into exclusive mode. Firstly, make sure you use the latest ZP build, there's been several updated EXEs in this thread.
If this doesn't help, activate MadVR's debug mode and try to reproduce the issue where it doesn't kick in and then post the debug log in the MadVR thread on doom9.
There's on reason why it shouldn't always kick in automatically, but if there is, madshi might be able to make out what's going on from the debug logs.

Then I go to Fullscreen (with or without exclusive madVR Fullscreen) in double-clicking.
Then I quit Fullscreen by double clicking later. And here is what I have:

http://i.imgur.com/7a8eKl.jpg (http://imgur.com/7a8eK)

Except the player is above the taskbar.

About my config, it's single monitor, Windows 7 x64; 1080p TV (24,50,60Hz), ATI HD5770; madVR, LAV Filter.
No software interfering.

If you can give a good reason why MadVR's seekbar should still be used, I'm listening.
Because I come from MPC-HC, and I want to have the same stuff as MPC-HC. Then after that, I'll try your control bar. But for now, I want what is the best for madVR in exclusive mode: only madVR stuff.
And more, I don't want any control/buttons in full screen. I only need a seekbar. And the one from madVR is really nice.

For the exclusive not always kicking, it's not that important for now, since it works sometimes, and I'm too lazy to try a debug build, upload all stuff, and more, madshi has no time for that right now. But as I said, it's not important. The 2 issues above prevent me to test ZP more in fact and yet, I'd like to use it more.

1. Please test with freefall's suggestion, I'd be interested to hear if it makes a difference.
2. Does it matter where on-screen you double-click to exit fullscreen?
3. You can setup ZP's control bar to hide most buttons (all except the volume and close buttons). The control bar works through MadVR's OSD code, which means that exclusive mode is maintained and it gives you much more functionality (even without the buttons).
I'll see about making ZP disabling MadVR's bar optional to help with users transitioning between players.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, it did not work in my case. But I tried other options in this screen, and once, I manage to have the window where it was before Fullscreen, but just once. It was when I enable "Center UI when exiting Fullscreen".

But I found a way to avoid this issue, but it's not really usable. First, this problem is ONLY with madVR, no problem with Overlay Mixer for example. But it's not a madVR issue since:
If I disable the option "Fix window movement glitches" in menu "Playback > Video", If I go to Fullscreen thanks to the button on title bar, or thanks to the context menu, no problem, I go to Fullscreen, then, when I double click to exit Fullscreen, it works ! The window is where it was.
Unfortunately, it's not usable, because I can't go Fullscreen with a double-click; indeed, each time I do a simple click on the image, the window is moved to another place (a bit lower and at right)

Ahhh, I think I've found the problem... You have to go to Interface > Mouse > Media Left Click, and choose "Move Window" ! If I choose "disabled", I can't move window, but it's a good workaround (since I can move window with the title bar) !
You should reproduce if you enable "Move window" for left click.

There's an OS "bug" in Win 7 that moves the Window if you try to drag it from the video area.
It affects several renderers and the only way to get it to work is to "trick" windows (that's why there's a special setting that controls windows movement). The "trick" however, can explain what you're seeing on the window move.

You do need the Professional/MAX version to create your own custom profiles with filter chains.

Could not create a Smart Play Graph, will now try a standard graph...
----

But I think I know where the problem is: I've disabled MPEG4 decoder in ffdshow because he "stole" LAV Filters.

But more important, I've found my real problem. In fact, I had MP3 DMO instead of LAV Audio but it was the same in GraphStudio. So in fact, it should be a bug in MPC-HC which does not see this decoder and goes directly on LAV Audio Decoder.

So forget about my (non) issue and I apology; at the contrary, the DirectShow filter creation works flawlessly in ZP. And when I've disabled Microsoft MP3 DMO, I've had LAV Audio.

I see a problem with prefinal12 when using madVR and the TCP/IP interface. I have things set up so that if I get a Transport 'Stop' or 'Closed' response via TCP/IP, I issue a TCP/IP command to display the Media Library Navigator. This works under prefinal11 but NOT under prefinal12 when I issue a TCP/IP 'Stop' command. It works fine (under prefinal12 or 11) when I do a 'Stop' from the keyboard.

I can also do an 'Alt-M' or force the TCP/IP MediaNav manually and it will then work. From this last, I am thinking that there is now (prefinal12) a delay after the TCP/IP 'Stop' command before another TCP/IP command is recognized (or possibly just the MediaNav command), although I'm not sure of this.

This happens in either windowed or exclusive mode of madVR, although the delay required might be considerably greater in exclusive. (I'm not sure about this last, however.) Everything works fine under EVR.

Let me know what other info I can supply.

I don't think I changed anything in that part of the code between builds.
The only thing I can currently think of is maybe the keyboard anti-repeat mode (Adv. Options / Interface / Keyboard).

Please try to explain the issue with more details, perhaps include a log of the TCP/IP traffic.

Which application are you using to automate this process?
I don't think I changed anything in that part of the code between builds.
The only thing I can currently think of is maybe the keyboard anti-repeat mode (Adv. Options / Interface / Keyboard).

Please try to explain the issue with more details, perhaps include a log of the TCP/IP traffic.

The TCP/IP Communication with ZP is handled by Lua code that I've written using the Lua Socket Library. While this code runs under Girder, it doesn't use any other Girder facilities, such as Events, Plug-Ins, Devices, etc. I've got a lot of code that does TCP/IP with no problems.

The code involved in this problem is simple: When I see the 1000 Event with a 0 or 1 (Closed or Stopped), I send out the 3 5110 Commands and then the 5100 Command to display the Media Navigator. That's it.

Here is the TCP/IP traffic with elapsed time in ms on the right. Nothing else is received (in either case) after the final fnStop response.

The prefinal11 results below are taken with madVR and are normal in all respects.

prefinal11:
To ZP: 5100 fnStop 000
From ZP: 1000 0 1 213
To ZP: 5110 exSetAR,2 213
To ZP: 5110 exBlanking,0 213
To ZP: 5110 exApplyPR,0 213
To ZP: 5100 fnMediaNav 213
From ZP: 1200 Aspect Ratio 1 231
From ZP: 2200 Derived 1 235
From ZP: 5110 exSetAR,2 1 235
From ZP: 1200 Blanking 1 240
From ZP: 5110 exBlanking,0 1 241
From ZP: 1200 Normal 1 248
From ZP: 5110 exApplyPR,0 1 249
From ZP: 3100 5 1 358
From ZP: 5100 fnMediaNav 1 438
From ZP: 1811 1 1 489
From ZP: 5100 fnStop 1 489

If I run prefinal12 with EVR instead of madVR, the results are the same as prefinal11 above. If I run it with madvr, but doing the Stop from the keyboard, the results are also the same as above (except that the fnStop entries are missing).

The results below use madVR and issue the Stop via TCP/IP. Note that it's the same in both windowed and exclusive mode of madVR.

prefinal12:
To ZP: 5100 fnStop 000
From ZP: 1000 0 1 207
To ZP: 5110 exSetAR,2 207
To ZP: 5110 exBlanking,0 207
To ZP: 5110 exApplyPR,0 207
To ZP: 5100 fnMediaNav 207
From ZP: 5110 exSetAR,2 1 219
From ZP: 5110 exBlanking,0 1 219
From ZP: 5110 exApplyPR,0 1 219
From ZP: 5100 fnMediaNav 1 219
From ZP: 1811 1 1 395
From ZP: 5100 fnStop 1 395

Note that, while prefinal12 results have the 5110 and 5100 acknowledgements of the commands, they are missing the 2200 and 3100 events indicating that the exSetAR and fnMediaNav commands are not being acted upon. (And the Media Navigator does not, in fact, appear.)

Also, the 1200 OSD Events are missing and the OSD's do not appear.

All of this seems to indicate that the four commands are not acted upon at all.

(Also note that the problem is still there if I remove the other 3 Commands and just leave the fnMediaNav.)

It thus appears that something that was changed in madVR handling upon Stop is the cause of the problem. The change below looks like a good candidate but you would know better than me on that.

- When using MadVR fullscreen exclusive mode in combination with auto-changing monitor resolution on fullscreen, exiting fullscreen did not restore the original monitor's resolution. Thanks Hawke.

The problem may even be in madVR but, if that's the case, it's something in ZP that triggers it.

Are you changing monitor resolution on fullscreen? This isn't something you indicated before.
If you're not, then this fix shouldn't cause the issue.
And in any case, your script code doesn't indicate a switch in or out of fullscreen.

You didn't answer my question regarding using Zoom Player's internal keyboard anti repeat rate, although I suspect it shouldn't make a difference.

Another question, did you enable MadVR's Seek Bar (by default it should be disabled in ZP, but in build 12 it was made optional)

Here's what I tried to duplicate the issue:
1. I used the latest version of ZP Comm example : http://inmatrix.com/zplayer/comm.shtml
2. I switched the player to MadVR (exclusive disabled) and switched to fullscreen on my second monitor.
3. I played a standard XVID AVI.
4. In ZP Comm, I sent:
5100 fnStop
5110 exSetAr,2
5100 fnMediaNav

The AR was changed and the media nav opened fine.
Can you try using ZPComm to see if it replicates on your system?

Finally, try to reset ZP settings to the default and see if it makes a difference.

I didn't change anything here, although I tried it with "Only with API access" unchecked and it made no difference.

It worked with ZPComm, BUT there's a BIG difference. You're sending the other commands right after the fnStop. I'm sending them after I get the 1000 0 1 Event which doesn't occur until 200 ms after the fnStop is sent. So it would appear that they're blocked by something that occurs during or after the Stop processing.

Finally, try to reset ZP settings to the default and see if it makes a difference.

I tried that and the Media Nav appeared, BUT, when I started the file again the image appeared in miniature in the upper left corner of the screen (but not in a window).

I'll try to investigate further tomorrow, but I hope you'll think about it some more in the interim.

When you type up multiple lines to send as a block, in the traffic log box, they will appear as one line starting with "OUT" and several additional lines of text.
The data itself is sent in one block, which ZP parses one line at a time.
In the log above, you sent all 3 commands as a block, unlike what you do with your script.

What I wanted you to do is try to replicate the issue as triggered by the lua script, but manually through ZP Comm so I can confirm the issue is in ZP and not in your lua script and so I can duplicate your actions without your script on hand.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression that this "lockout" period (after the 1000 0 response) is long enough that this condition can be reproduced manually. I believe that it is less than 100 ms (I'm going to try to measure it more exactly). I (or you) can't possibly reproduce it manually.

So the problem only occurs if your script sends "5100 fnMediaNav" after receiving "1000 0" in under 100ms?
Double check that you have a value of "0" for both "Navigation" and "Functions" under "Adv. Options / Interface / Keyboard - Anti Repeat".

jmonier
26th September 2011, 19:20
Yes, I just measured it and it works OK if I delay 100ms after receiving "1000 0". It fails if I delay 90 ms. This is using ONLY the fnMediaNav with none of the other commands.

I did double check and Anti Repeat are both set to "0". (I've never changed them.)

EDIT: I could certainly live with the 100 ms delay. It's just that it worked OK before and I would worry that the root cause might affect something else.

Here's another madVR bug that's associated with the Playback:Controls: 'Stop function closes the playing media file' option. It does go back to prefinal06 at least, though, so I'm not saying that it is related to my other bug. It's also somewhat dependent on the option being UNchecked, which is sort of the reverse.

The bug is in using the 1200 command to display a Pop-up OSD when nothing is playing. (I use this to superimpose a clock on the Media Navigator.) If the option above is UNchecked, the 1200 command does not work once a video has been played and then stopped. If the option is checked, then it works when the video is stopped ("1000 0" Response). It never works when the video goes to the end (always produces a "1000 1" response regardless of the option setting).

I'm presuming that the bug lies in the Pop-up OSD not being changed back from the madVR interface when the video is stopped (but somehow it is when the file is closed). The bug is not present when using EVR.

This is certainly in the same area as my other bug, but there are enough differences that it may be totally unrelated.

A related question is whether you intended that the option NOT affect the behavior when the video goes to the end.

Blight
27th September 2011, 19:35
jmonier:
It's not really a bug, it's a design choice with regards to MadVR. You see, ZP draws the OSD using MadVR's osd as long as MadVR is open, otherwise, the opening of windows (the OSD) can cause MadVR to miss/fail to switch to exclusive mode.

+ The options search dialog now highlights the selected components, big thanks
to Mitko for the enhanced code.

+ Redesigned the Smart Play configuration dialog for greater clarity.

+ The Smart Play configuration dialogs now prompt you to update a modified
profile when clicking on a different profile in the list or clicking the
OK button to close the configuration dialog.

+ The guard-dog function now forces Zoom Player to close if it detects a
freeze during shutdown.

+ The "Adv. Options / Interface / Playlist - Use Media Title if available"
setting will now display the media title (if available) in the fullscreen
playlist navigation interface.

+ The "Start Player in" setting has moved from "Adv. Options / Interface" to

+ The options dialog search window now remembers it's previous height value.

- The Windows 7 task list wasn't cleared if no items were selected.

- The Install Center now identifies 3rd party 64bit installations (e.g. 7-zip).
Thanks Gleb Egorych, Midiboy.

- When using MadVR fullscreen exclusive mode in combination with auto-changing
monitor resolution on fullscreen, exiting fullscreen did not restore the
original monitor's resolution. Thanks Hawke.

- The "CUE" chapter parsing code has been rewritten.
It now parses unicode/ascii charsets correctly and loads meta-data
information (Perfomer/Genre/etc). Thanks Orf.

- Unchecking the "Enable TAG display" setting would hide the entire display,
including the background image rather than just the TAG display.

- Unchecking "Save last play time and date" from "Adv. Options /
Playback / History" would cause Zoom Player to forget any new items
played the next time Zoom Player was restarted.

- Choosing to hide the Zoom Player task bar icon would fail (the icon would
reappear) under certain circumstances.

- The GuardDog feature no longer restart Zoom Player if the internal screen
saver is active.

- Fixed a complete freeze when playing audio files containing corrupt
ID3 tags.

- The control bar and time display should now appear in the correct position
when moving the video area or zooming with MadVR.

- JPEG scanline image fixed! Thanks Spuncut/OV2.

- Folder image base names did not recognize the use of paths. Thanks Orf.

- The Smart Play configuration dialogs now selects the first profile from the
list when erasing a profile so the previously erased profile's filters do
not remain active.

- Changing the navigation keyboard layout could cause a crash when closing
the skin selection dialog through the keyboard. Thanks Gleb Egorych.

I understand, but doesn't madVR close at the end of the file playback? I guess that actually closing the file upon Stop closes madVR but there doesn't appear to be a way to close the file when playback stops due to reaching the end of file. Are you saying that madVR remains open in this case?

If you can provide an option to close the file when playback stops (and the "1000 1" event occurs) upon end of file being reached (or make the existing option do this as well) that would probably do the job for me. I really don't want to lose functionality that I've had for many years.

But for me, that's logical it's the renderer which chooses frequency...

Reclock can do it without cuting bitstream, but settings are more complicated.

Anyway, ZP 8 has no plans for this feature.

With all the respect MPC-HC as a build in auto frame rate feature. What is the advantage using ZP8 that worth this fuss?

Hi, I am looking to buy Zoomplayer and so I am looking for some functionality like potplayer & mpc-hc.
How can you have done a so much no user friendly software ???
I want to
a) configured keyboard shortcut (for remote use) like X -> quit, S -> change subtitle, A -> change Audio, etc.
b) Add ffdshow audio & video post processor

For a) I have to edit some code text files, with 70 lines of explanation in english -> not already understand what I have to do :(
For b) I guess I have to change merit of these directshow filter

Oooh guys, Please, think easy
With free software, I can do these kind of stuff, without computer engineering degree (although I am)

tschi actually you can do what you want but i agree zoomplayers complexity raised a lot since its early days (it could need a redesign option wise) though if you master Potplayer which has similar complexity you should be able to master Zoomplayer and understand how it works also :)
Though don't forget it evolved in a complete MediaCenter (with even some editing functionality) so these options are all needed but categorizing them more efficient and maybe visually wouldn't be a bad idea for average joes as well :)

it seems with smart filters I don't have audio crash when switching, but I would be not able to add postprocesing

it crashs when switching ac3 <> dts and it's not really crash, the audio and video are play fine, just a error window

You run a remote with Event Ghost or Intelliremote - they link directly in to Zoomplayer.

Zoomplayer smart play does not use Merits. Merits are for toy software. You explicitly set what filter you want for each audio type.

For instance, I use LAVAudio->ffdshow audio->Convolver wrapper->Reclock, for most audio types. I could not set this filter chain in MPC-HC, using it's merits system. In ZP it's easy.

tschi

Thanks Mark, I will check for filter settings, I didn't understand I was able to add more than one filter by codec.:o
Anyway, I use potplayer & mpchc in same time, so I would like to have the same shortcut keys for all. Installing new other softwares is not a solution. Key management is quite hard to understand. I just want to set :
X-> quit
Space -> play / pause (already done by menu)
A-> change Audio
S -> change subtile
Rethink the shortcut key management would be a great enhancement

Ctr+B (change sub) does'nt work (vobsub + ffdshow, lavfsplitter)
That is a known issue (bug 75 I believe). If you change to ffdshow's subtitle renderer it will work then, just not with VOBSub. It used to work fine.

I am eagerly awaiting bug 75's resolution myself.

And I will tell you I use Zoom Player with a remote and don't have any issues with the keyboard shortcuts as they are set up, except the keys for DVD chapters and the keys for Media file chapters are different, but I can overcome that by changing those key settings for Zoom Player when it is in "DVD mode".

Hi everyone,
Sorry for the late reply, it's been the holiday season over in my part of the world and I've had other contractual obligations to attend.
But I'm back and I'll address all questions as best I can.

nx6:
It will work with any format ZP has support for duration extraction, which currently is (by extension):
AVI;CDA;FLAC;M2TS;MKA;MKV;MOV;MP3;MP4;MPA;MPLS;OGG;WMA
Other formats 'may' work as some DirectShow hueristics are at work here, but the above are gurentueed as long as you're using the Install Center components (other components may work, but have not been tested).

Regarding the stream switching code, there are several issues with it that I plan to address post v8 with a complete rewrite, but I do believe that if anything, VobSub is working with Ctrl+B and most of the issues
are actaully with FFDShow as the sub renderer, so if you can send me a file and an exact graph setup that crashes with VobSub as the sub renderer, I might be able provide a quick fix.

tschi:
You don't need to edit a text for to create custom key mapping for Zoom Player, there's a built in editor.
In fact, I took the time and created a video tutorial showing you how it's done:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjEXDbqaKWI
As for adding post-processing filters, it's quite easy and you can do it by format, simply by adding a filter after the decoder in the Smart Play configuration profile.
It's also touched a bit in this video tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob4GS2H4M9I

If there are specific features that don't work in this setup, you can provide us with sample clips and we can try enhancing the code.

CruNcher:
I don't agree with you, sure there's more things to tweak, but a lot of things are done automatically now compared to previous versions.
I constantly try to simplify the interface. A lot of redesign has been done in v8, practially every interface was tweaked in one way or another.
And the new options search dialog makes it much easier to locate a feature even if you don't remember the name exactly.

original monitor's resolution. Thanks Hawke.

- The 'Playing new content moves the player window to the top" setting was
bringing MadVR out of exclusive mode for a split second (screen flashes).

Options /

- Under certain circumstances, the skin selection dialog would show media
skin selection while the navigation mode was highlighted.

- The Screen Saver and clock function accidentally labeled 'October'
as 'Saturday'.

- Shift+ESC didn't close the fullscreen navigation interface if the
"Use keyboard input to quickly search and enter data through navigation
interfaces" setting was enabled.

Ah yes, that thread. I apologize I took your thread off-topic there, tschi, with my discussion on Haali's picture renderer.

To be WAF compliant, I need to be able to change subtitles with only remote controler :o
If the ctrl-B cycling worked you could, that's what my remote is set up for.

ctrl+b seems to be broken with haali, BTW. lavfsplitter is the most bug free splitter in this town

I don't see any difference whether I use Haali's splitter or LAV splitter with VOBsub. What happens is: ctrl-b switches the audio track instead the first time you hit it, then does nothing on subsequent presses.

tschi:
Which subtitle renderer are you using (Adv. Options / Playback / Video / Subtitle).
Are you using VobSub? If so, which version, did you try the one from ZP's install center?
I'm using VOBSub, and it is the one from Zoomplayer's install center. I know that subtitle cycling works if I use ffdshow's subtitle filter AND Haali's splitter. Using LAV splitter and ffdshow's subtitle filter doesn't do anything at all.

Can you provide a link to a media+sub file I should test? For me Ctrl+B does work with VobSub and most splitters.
It doesn't work for any MKV file with multiple (embedded) subtitle tracks. Works fine for OGM files, though.

Edit: I did a full uninstall of Zoomplayer and its components, rebooted, reinstalled and changed the .exe to the 25 prefinal before posting this.

Ok, we're getting a bit clearer here.

The begin with, make sure you have Smart Play enabled.
The biggest problem is if you had a combination of external and internal subs, if that's the case, you may have an issue, but if only playing embedded or only external, it should work.

I used this small MKV file for testing:
http://www.multiupload.com/RUGOZ7H5C8
Here's what I've tried:
1. I used the latest Haali splitter (from CoreCodec download pages, not haali's), LAV CUVID for video, ffdshow for audio, VobSub for sub and EVR for renderer.
Ctrl+B works (on the sample file I have, which includes 4 subtitle tracks).
2. If I switched the splitter to LAV, then only the default language will turn on/off due to VobSub being used as the sub-selector instead of LAV. I'll investigate if this can be easily improved.

@Blight: Very weird issue. I told you on the ZP forums the subtitle switching issue is fixed, but it doesn't work on your test file. On other multi-sub MKV files it is working fine, but when I use your test file I still cannot change subtitle tracks! I also notice when I play back your particular mkv file that ffdshow is being used for video decoding again, but when I play my other MKV files LAV is being used for decoding. Do you know what might cause this?

Edit: Ah, this is XviD video! Not h264. You have to be using LAV for both splitter and decoder to get the subtitle cycler to work. I changed the XviD decoder to LAV and now I can cycle the subtitle tracks on your test file.

@WasF: Make sure the options panel is set to "Advanced" mode. "Interface" -> "Mouse" -> "Settings"

I answered your other questions on the ZP forum, but I have one of my own.
Why do you disable "Aggressively Hide mouse cursor"?
I seem to recall there's been some times I have been trying to use the mouse with Zoomplayer running and it would disappear on me. Might not have been Zoomplayer hiding it, might have been the picture renderer. Even with the "aggressively hide pointer" selected I still see the mouse in the middle of the screen at times I don't want to, like when using the full screen media browser. I found the only way to prevent this is to use the "move off screen" option.

Except a problem I've found since I started using the Windows 8 beta is that there is a "show desktop" hotspot in the corner where Zoomplayer parks the mouse, so if I launch Zoomplayer in window mode and then jump to full screen mode, soon after that the Zoomplayer windows become transparent because it has moved the mouse to that corner and activated the Show Desktop feature.

Edit: The option is actually called "peek at desktop" (since it doesn't move the program windows, just makes them transparent rectangles) and I can turn it off I've found out. Now that corner will only hide the other windows and show the desktop *when clicked*, not simply hovered over. So that fixes that problem. :)

And I don't need to use FFDShow as the video decoder to get the sub-cycle to work. Make sure you don't have the ZP Sub Renderer set to FFDShow.
You mean LAV decoder? That's what I was finding. Only when I used LAV splitter + decoder did the cycle subtitles work again.

ZP's sub settings are on VOBSub. FFDShow's subtitle renderer does not work correctly for many of my files.

Nice to have subtitle cycling again. Now the only trade-off is LAV Splitter does not support ordered chapters like Haali's does.

- The Install Center now identifies 3rd party 64bit installations (e.g. 7-zip).
Thanks Gleb Egorych, Midiboy.

- When using MadVR fullscreen exclusive mode in combination with auto-changing

original monitor's resolution. Thanks Hawke.

- The 'Playing new content moves the player window to the top" setting was
bringing MadVR out of exclusive mode for a split second (screen flashes).

- The "CUE" chapter parsing code has been rewritten.
It now parses unicode/ascii charsets correctly and loads meta-data

directory as the currently playing media.

- When Smart Play is disabled, the Zoom Player DSP filter is no longer
part of the graph if no audio streams are detected.

- The red error dialog messages were limited to 255 characters.

- Loading external icon definition files did not apply the icons to
all file extensions in some cases.

Hey Blight, would it be possible to have Zoom Player read ID3 tags on audio files besides MP3?

If it's more than a simple change I'll just request it as a feature on the ZP forums for a future version.

ZP reads APE Tags, FLAC Tags and a few other tag formats.
What isn't working for you?

I don't know if you're aware of this, but I just found out that I can't use subtitles with madVR's video decoders. The problem is that ZP tries to insert VobSub or ffdshow between the video decoder and the renderer and that's not possible with the madVR decoders. The one really bad thing is that ZP doesn't tell you that it can't do it. It seems to think that it's working fine since the OSD messages show up when you switch subtitles, but the subtitles never appear.

Apparently MPC-HC, J. River and Potplayer all have their own subtitle renderers that can communicate with madVR separately so they work fine with the madVR decoders.

I have my entire CD collection ripped to my PC in iTunes in AAC and some Apple Lossless (both use .m4a file extension), along with any MP3 files I have purchased from Amazon or gotten other places, and a handful of WAV files as well. They all have ID3 tags on them from iTunes (ID3 v2.4 I think?).

I can play all these files back fine in Zoom Player, but it just displays the filename on the .mp4 and .wav files while it displays everything in the tags on the MP3 files in my library.

Still can't hide mouse in full screen mode !
Every year or so, I check on Zoom Player, and despite the gazillion options, still this fatal flaw is dragging along !
Just WOW.

Eh?

Dunno what you are going on about.

The mouse disappears after about 5 seconds. It ALWAYS HAS.

The only time it won't, in my experience, is when you have 2 monitors, with ZP full screen on one, and another application has focus. The mouse doens't "belong" to ZP then, it belongs to the other application, so it doesn't get hidden.

Just to be clear, you are talking about when MadVR is a decoder and renderer? Not just MadVR renderer.

Because Vobsub does work perfectly when it is inserted between the Decoder and Renderer.

You would need another method of rendering subtitles. So submit a feature request already!

Yes, it's the case where madVR is both a decoder and a renderer. Of course it works fine when I use a separate decoder.
