Editing Raw Video files with AVISynth?

Should i convert Raw Video file into avi before editing on VirtualDub by using AVISynth.

When you take this RAW video file? Because raw file can have over9000 kinds.

Raw? From something like a RED or Alexa > 8bit or 'Raw' as in confusing word for 'native' or some codec or other, straight off the camera, assuming that's the gist of the query?

I installed the RawSource filter for AVISynth. I created plugins file and download it there so script can read the rawsource. It is a YUV file from

and i installed YUV viewer.
