At about 57% total completion I get the error "DVD Rebuilder experienced a buffer overflow Error #0004. Must abort." Any ideas what caused this and how to fix it? Thanks.

At about 57% total completion I get the error "DVD Rebuilder experienced a buffer overflow Error #0004. Must abort." Any ideas what caused this and how to fix it? Thanks. That means the source is almost definitely corrupt. The buffer is incredibly large, and the source would have to violate standards to overflow. It's probably a bad rip.

Thanks for the reply. I used AnyDVD to rip and when Rebuilder failed I then used CloneDVD2 on the same files and it had no problem. Ill try again in a day or so and see what happens.

OK, I have tried another DVD and once again DVD ReBuilder has stopped at about the same completion as last time. I ripped with the latest version of ANYDVD HD. After the error I once again used a different program to see if it would work and it did. So far two different programs have worked with the files that ReBuilder has not been able to. Here is all that was on the log file, hope someone can help:

You can't compare a "transcoder" to a real reauthoring program. It's apples and oranges. DVD Rebuilder has worked on every disc attempted (thousands) for years. I've told you it is a ripping problem or a bad configuration -- when it is a buffer overflow that is the ONLY thing it could be. Review any "special" settings you've chosen in AnyDVD.

Are you a registered user? There are a lot of badly hacked versions out there that cause unpredictable results -- including buffer issues.

Yes, I have a registered license. I have just uninstalled and reinstalled and I get the same error. This time it was 0003 instead of 0004. If you have any suggestions on a different way to rip to hard drive instead of ANYDVD Ill try that and see if it is the ripper.

Are you sure that your optical or hard drive is not failing?

Also, I wouldn't imagine that AnyDVD is the problem; it's a pretty solid ripper. Whenever I have had bad rips it was because of the disc itself.

RobertM, I really dont think its the the optical or hard drive, although I have no idea how I could tell. If there is a way to check please let me know. I have used two different DVDs, two different drives, and two different rippers and I get the same result at the same place, when it starts the rebuild. I have no more ideas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My next option is to just uninstall and forget it.

Ah, I missed that from your previous posts. When you say "two different DVDs" do you mean 2 copies of the same movie, or 2 different movies?

Two different movies.

Hi!

Perhaps too obvious a question but, is it possible that you are running out of hard drive space?

Hmm... well, it's quite a puzzle then, isn't it.

Your ripping program, AnyDVD, is really quite stable; it certainly has never failed me, so I can't imagine that it is the problem. You have tried multiple discs and multiple optical drives, so your input system can be reasonably discounted. DVDRebuilder is VERY mature, and it is vanishingly unlikely that there would be some weird quirk that it couldn't handle on TWO different discs. These observations would lead me to agree with JDobbs that something is incorrectly configured on your system. What that 'something' might be -- I dunno.

When I had a problem like this in the past I installed a new HD in my computer and then loaded a fresh OS install on that drive. Don't load ANY s/w except for the OS, DVDRebuilder, and AnyDVD (with its default settings). Boot from that drive, create a fresh rip, and see if you can create a rebuild.

No, actually an EXCELLENT question!

Thanks guys, I have plenty of space. The only thing I have done since the last time it worked is added a program or two. You would think uninstalling and reinstalling would have helped. I cannot understand why it happens at the same place, the rebuild, especially after the reinstall.
