TS playback skips as if corrupted, but when demuxed streams are fine

Hello guys.

I have a TS file that skips always in the same position (00:04-00:05 seconds), but many times more during playback.

I used tsMuxeR to demux the streams. Besides finding more streams than I was expecting (2 audio, 2 video), I played them back individually and they don't skip at any time.

I can remux them, but I want to know why the files skip.

To give more info about the issue:

-Player is MPC-HC, but it happens with any decoder, even DXVA, even software, and with PotPlayer too.
-Haali splitter
-Core 2 Duo 3GHz, 8GB RAM, Ati 4870, Win7 x64
-Demuxed streams play alright with all players.

PS: I demuxed the streams with tsMuxeR and remuxed with mkvtoolnix and the resulting mkv plays flawless

I found that all clips with this problem have AAC audio. It seems MPC-HC's and ffdshow AAC decoder use libfaad2, both causing the same problem. If I switch to ffdshow's libavcodec it plays fine.

The question now is, why doesn't libfaad2 work when inside a .ts file? Dexumed streams work file.

Any ideas?

Most probably the answer will be ADTS ;)
This skipping also happens with AAC Scalable as neither libavcodec nor libfaad2 support it yet (or no sound @ all)

Hmm this stream is interesting as according to the index it has a baseline programm bellow the Mpeg-2 stream i wonder for what Satellite stuff carries baseline streams in Japan (SD ?) ahh or was this captured from ISDB-T then it would make sense for the Mobile stream also the resolution would rather better fit to Mobile usage :)

Though MPC-HCs AAC Decoder actually works with it but only in combination with their Splitter, wont connect to Lav Splitter @ least.

You should avoid Haalis Splitter for either TS or PS and rather use either Lav Splitter (no Programm switching) or MPC-HCs splitter (Programm switching capable)

I thought Haali Splitter was actually better than MPC-HC's, thus I took the effort to install it.

So here the splitter is the culprit? I tried remuxing to MVK without the low quality audio and video streams and it plays fine. Strange mess I ended up finding. Is this worth reporting?

Haali still is very-good for MKVs, but still not-so-good for MP4s and TSs, IMHO.

I found many TS files that don't play nice on MPC-HC's splitter. Some play too fast and skip frames, others start without audio and later the audio starts, others without audio at all.

Probably my best bet now is to remux them all to MKV. Some of these TS files I could fix remuxing to TS again, but is that worth it? I'm not sure if I'd miss something else by dumping TS. The test MKVs I made were even a bit smaller.
