How to determine starting/ending signatures of IFO files?

Hi there...

I have a bunch of DVD data that I accidentally deleted from a hard drive. The various data recovery tools I'm looking at need to know the starting and, hopefully, ending signatures of IFO files in order to recover them.

However, in examining IFO files, I see they have starting signatures, but most end in a bunch of null values.

Is the size of any given IFO file given in the IFO file itself? Is there a way of determining the size of the file other than that, based on another signature? (eg. N bytes after "ABCXYZ" is the end of the file), etc?

Well, for one, there were 650 separate disks, and second, I no longer have most of them.

We're talking disks ripped over several years.

If it were only a matter of re-ripping a reasonable number of disks that were still in my possession, I'd certainly do that.

When I post these questions, I should give more back-story, because someone always asks the equivalent of "Is your computer still plugged in?" I'd not be asking this kind of question if it were that simple... this is not the kind of situation where I would go "D'oh! Why didn't I think of that before?!?" :-)
