I've been using MeGui for about 5 years now. Last week I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 64. I installed MeGui from 0.3.5 x86 installer online package (The same installer was used when I did the last XP install back in September 2010).
2 things were noticeable different this time after the install. First when I went to update after the install I found there were no updates for x264 profiles. The only x264 setting available was scratchpad. Previously I had used xbox360 setting.
The 2nd difference was the HD streams extractor could no longer work with my files as it gave a error message. Although file indexer DGAVCindex would work (This had previously not worked in XP so I used HD streams extractor).
Now when encoding I would set it
Video resolution 720 x 400
Bit rate 1800
FPS 50
Source was Progressive
Resize lanczos (sharp)
Audio aac 128
In x264 configuration I set playback device to xbox360 with target mode set to target quality 20.0 (I also tried target file size 1000 with the same result).
My encoding speed was 50-51 FPS on first pass and 47-48 FPS on 2nd pass. With XP I was getting 110-111 FPS first pass and 84-85 FPS 2nd pass.
My pc is a i7 920 with 3 gig ram. Source file was from HDPVR TS AVC file at bit rate 13000.
I'm guessing it is the x264 configuration that is different from what I previously used. Previously I selected xbox360 in encoder settings without having to go in to the configuration.
Any help or ideas on why it has dropped to half the speed would be much appreciated.
Thanks
