Has anyone noticed a change in the HD picture on Sky HD boxes.

The Sky News HD logo for example shows this well. I have seen this on every box now.

Look at the top and bottom horizontal lines on the logo, very fuzzy.

In other words, a reduction in vertical resolution.

Those of you in the UK look at the Channel 4HD logo horizontal parts of the logo. It should be pencil thin and crisp. Not good.

Now switch to Freesat HD receiver box (Not Sky Box) or a built in Freesat HD receiver and see the difference.

This must be after an update to the Sky HD boxes concerning the HDMI output, as the transmission is the same for all receivers and other receivers are not like this.

This wasnt the case a while back.

Has this update been done so to make the difference in Sky 3D compared to 2D on Sky not look so different, i.e. Sky 3D is only half res (960 width) instead of 1920 for to 2D. Are they making the 2D HDMI image slightly fuzzy so as they look more similar. Or at least so the horizontal and vertical resolutions look less different.

If this is the case then please Sky DONT.

It may be, I don't have Sky (and never will) but Anixe HD (19.2°) almost halved its horizontal resolution to 1280x1080i in order to save bandwidth and thus costs.

Hi Ghitulescu

No what I mean is, the Sky box setup gives a poorer picture now, same transmission when being received on another box/built in Freesat receiver is fine.

When I say same transmission, I mean exactly the same i.e. from same transponder, same channel.

What has Sky done.

There are multiple 4HD feeds if I remember rightly.

How about an ageing problem of your box? I learned recently that there are tremendous problems with the power supplies of many STBs, including expensive ones.
It appear that every STB model is sooner or later touched by this issue.

Not in the sense that it doesn't start or work, but it works erratically, due to insufficient power.

Its the same Sat, same freq and same bouquet as far as I can tell. And its all channels, not just 4HD.

Every Sky box I have looked at has started doing this, Its something to do with an update for the HDMI output by the look of it.

Just for info the output is set to 1080i.
