joining 2 divx4 files

Hey!

I have a little problem. I have encoded 2 divx4 files at the same res and with the same audio properties with divx4. The only thing that differs is the filters when encoded to divx and the source. One is a ANALOUGE capture från VHS and the other one is a recorded MPEG-2 stream from a DVB card.

The only thing that differs in the encoding properties for these two files are the smoothing filters wich are slightly different. Used smartsmoother on the DVB source encode and the temporal smoother on the analouge VHS source...

Now, when I try to join these files virtual dub says "The video streams have different data formats". Why on earth is it saying this? The clips are identical in all their properties...or am I missing something here...obviousley I am :) If there's someone who understand why this happens please help me because this bugs me a LOT :(

I had the same problem with two captures. One was processed as YUV2 and the other as RGB. This caused one to be tagged as 16 bit and the other as 24 bit.

I didn't solved the problem, so I don't have a sollution. But maybe changing the tags will help. There was a post a while ago on how to do this.

Try joining with Nandub, or AviUtl

Tried to do the first VHS cap with fast recompress through avisynth and that worked but now it says that the audio streams format are different instead .) Perhaps someone has a solution to this as well?

both sounds are compressed to MP3 ABR 128 kbit/s. Since the DVB source was 48 Khz I converted the VHS cap to 48 Khz aswell in virtual dub. Then I compressed with the standard commandline in Gknot with LAME.

Suggestions?

Beware that Virtual Dub can't handle VBR Mp3, and ABR Mp3 is a VBR form.
Like i said above, try Nandub or AviUtl

virtual dub CAN open and process VBR mp3's BUT they will be out of synch...I tried nandub and the same thing happens.."Audio streams have different data streams"

Well, i will be shooting in the dark, but here goes:

The avi are diferent files, correct? I mean, isn't the same movie just captured, the first from analog source and the second from DVB source, right?

So, maybe, because both avi's are in ABR mp3, one has a diferent bitrate than the other. Then, when trying to join them, Nandub see's that the bitrates don't match and refuses to join the files.
I never tried to join 2 avi's with VBR mp3, i only use Nandub to split my divx to burn in 2 cd's, and since i too use ABR MP3, Vdub would give me problems.

yes, that could be the problem...I'll try to do them both in CBR 128 kbit/s..

maybe doesnt depend from changement to cbr
its normal that vbr have different bitrate along the stream

maybe when you remade the audio you set the same audio interleaving,
while before the interleaving was different.
