Seeking is laggy with720p and 1080p wmv files with BSplayer

I have a new Dell XPS L502X with i7 2630qm, 4 GB RAM, GT 540M, Crucial M4 SSD.

My problem is that seeking is not fluid while vewing 720p and 1080p wmv files with BS Player. Seeking with MKV, mpeg, avi, ts, m2ts... all other formats are fine, but with wmv files there's a 3-5 second pause before the video starts playing when I seek to later point, even if it is just a 10 second jump. How could I fix this?

I bet those 720p/1080p WMV files were compressed with WVC1. Changing of players may solve the issue.

How can I check what the files have been compressed with? Indeeed the problem occurs with every 720p or 1080p wmv file... Windows media player plays them nicely but I am used to using BS Player so I would like to find a way to solve this issue without changing the player...

Slow seeking happens with other players as well. WMV is just a terrible format.

VLC can seek fast, but shows video corruption after seeking.

You could try remuxing your WMVs through SolveigMM ASF Multiplexer.

You may also try to mux them into MKV using gsmux, which comes with Haali Splitter.

As for checking what codec was used to compress any vide/media file, use mediainfo.

I used to have the same issue with Potplayer, sometimes the player would even crash when playing WVC1 1080 OR 720 videos.
I found out that the problem is from the ASF/WMV splitter used in Potplayer which was "WM ASF Reader" it's good and fast with other WMV videos, but not this type (WVC1).

So I made a preset or a profile to to tell Potplayer to use it's internal ASF Splitter whenever it plays those crappy 1080 WVC1 videos
and switches back to "WM ASF Reader" when playing other WMVs,
and wow seeking became very smooth and quite fast.

Now I don't know about the player you're using, but try to change the ASF Splitter that is used (to the internal one if BSPlayer has one?) and see if it helps, I'm pretty sure it will.
