There is this player called [spam removed].

This player perhaps has the best video quality when it comes to the question of SD content. Doesnt make so much difference to HD videos though. The output is simply awesome even when played on a 32 inch LED. The big drawbacks are that you need additional software like ffdshow to decode most of the formats - audio and video.

What I wanna know is that is there any player out there which can do the job as good as this does? I have tried everything - mpc hc, gom, pot, kmp, vlc you name it but nothing comes close. Is there any way that the technology can be used in any other player?

TIA

What I wanna know is that is there any player out there which can do the job as good as this does?As good as this does? I didn't like it one bit. If you're a fan of sharpening there're sharpening shaders for use with DirectX Video Acceleration or AviSynth scripts for use with software decoding. The artifacts this 'advanced' Pixelfusion technology brings in the process of its upscaling algorithms can't be called an eye-candy. Here's a full-screen comparison of [spam] and MPC-HC. With [spam] I turned off IQ lighting, set Pixelfusion from Auto to High and left other settings untouched. With MPC-HC I used latest version of madVR renderer (with 8-bit dithering and yCMS) with ffdshow video decoder (with this dither AviSynth script (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1386559#post1386559)). Screenshots taken with printscreen. http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/64612

Their stuff is pretty old already ;) companies like Mirillis advanced much faster and constantly, those guys came to a full halt so it's practically out of development now.

Why i even raised this question is that there is a pixelfusion plugin v1.60 available for WMP which makes the video look much better than what it would have looked without the same but like its mentioned its only for WMP (v12 and above not supported). I was wondering if there was any way this plugin could be used with say PotPlayer and add ffdshow post processing? Just a thought!

And yes its development stopped even before it made any news. That having said Mirillis up scaling is not exactly great. It does the job but just.

And finally for novice like me it makes it very easy to use it without going through many codec installation and tweaking.

@TheElix - I use an AMD quad core with Radeon HD4670. Can you please tell me the best settings for madVR?

Thanks in advance

Why do you need extra dithering if MadVR does it?

There aren't any 'best settings'. What are you striving for?

I am not sure if my card is cable of outputting 8 bit. I was given to understand only Nvidia cards works fine with madVR. No issues will do some goggling and find out. Thanks

Every modern card is capable of 32-bit output (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_depth), it's your display that is limited to 8-bit (10-bit on rare occasions) or less.
And you didn't answer this question:
What are you striving for?

I am trying to get the best possible output and making the video look as realistic as possible. I've been tweaking around with all the players and renderers but not sure what is the best yet! and to answer the question. I was trying to see if somehow I could get video closest to the way it looks using the pixelfusion in either Potplayer or MPC HC

So you prefer sharpened image? Then you could try using JanWillem32's shaders with EVR CP renderer in MPC-HC (read this topic (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=157634) for instructions and shaders themselves). Or try in-built Sharpen Complex 2 shader for starters. Note, shaders only work in few renderers, EVR CP being best of them.
