1080i videos: What are your settings?

Hello guys. I've been having some problems playing 1080i ts files, mostly MPEG2.

I can't get a combination of player/decoder/renderer to make sure I get properly deinterlaced video and smooth playback.

I have Windows 7 64bit and an ATI 4870.

My player is MPC-HC with EVR-CP. If I use the internal filters, no DXVA is used and no deinterlacing. If I use the MS DTV-DVD decoder, I get DXVA with deinterlacing but playback is choppy.

Can you tell me what do you normally use to play HDTV broadcast 1080i?

Try using ffdshow video decoder and the deinterlacing filter set to Yadif. Of course, you need to have an adequate CPU to have smooth playback.

TheElix, what does "pulldown detection OFF" change? Is it for better performance, or it's just not needed?

With this setting being turned ON reportedly there's a small lag when de-interlacing begins working. It makes some frames still look interlaced.

I updated MPC-HC (it was not that old) and now MPC-HC + EVR CP + MS DTV-DVD Decoder and it works fine. Seems not even Vector Adaptive deinterlacing reconstructs the stream perfectly.

i have an amd e350, and when i try to use microsoft dtv dvd video decoder with hardware deinterlacing, it is terribly buggy. I use coreavc dxva for h264, and cyberlink pdvd11 dxva for vc-1 and mpeg 2.
