Is there any way to assign a key to turn on/off the subtitles displayed by DirectVobSub ?
Thanks.

I believe that you can use 'S' or maybe 'W'.

Did you even try it? 'S' and/or 'Shift+S' will do it (if you use Haali Media Splitter or LAV Splitter).

Thanks, it works now. The MPC internal filters were selected in Options -> Internal filters so Haali media splitter wasn't used. Apparently the key used for "Next Subtitle (OGM)" in MPC is used for DirectVobSub, if that isn't defined then the "Next Subtitle" key is used.
I don't use EVR CP so I thought MPC had no control whatsoever over subtitles and shortcut keys were hopeless, but apparently MPC can communicate with Haali which in turn passes the command to DirectVobSub (or something)...
