How to force DVD drive to spin at max speed

I'm using DVDFab 8 on Windows 7. My drive is a Lite-On iHAS424.

Is there any way to force the DVD drive to spin when ripping? When DVDFab first starts reading the disc, the drive spins up then immediately spins down and during the ripping process the drive stays at a very low rotation speed which obviously kills my ripping speed. Is there any way to force the drive to spin at its maximum speed all the time? I'm assuming it's entering some kind of stupid low noise or low power consumption mode and I want that off.

It's not riplock because if I start the ripping process before the drive spins down then it works at full speed. Besides I was under the impression that Lite-On drives don't have Riplock.

This was enabled by default.

if I start the ripping process before the drive spins down then it works at full speedWell, if it's not a riplocked drive and making CERTAIN that it's in DMA mode and not PIO, then I'd suggest your drive may very well be failing...

**EDIT** Unless, of course, this problem is being exhibited only with one specific DVD.

You can probably use MediaCodeSpeedEdit (MCSE) (http://club.myce.com/f61/mediacodespeededit-tool-dvd-writers-114269/) to remove the riplock. It will patch the firmware for your drive and then you re-flash. See the checkbox lower right:
